Status: offline 		I found this game from 1993 available somewhere on the Internet. If I tell you where, some of you would jump on it and snatch it before me. So I'm on the fence with this one: should I buy it or not? I understand it is tactical scale RTS similar to Total War series. Should I buy it for $20 + shipping or would Napoleon: Total War be a better choice?

Status: offline 		Fields of Glory by MicroProse is a DOS game. It will not run under Windows, but you might be able to get it to run by using DOSBox. However, considering the age of the game (more than 20 years old) and the quirkiness of some of the games back then, I would buy a more recent title.

Status: offline 		I use D-Fend Reloaded to play old DOS Games http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/, it does a good job making the old DOS games easily playable.

Status: offline 		I got Sid Meir's Antietam (I think the same series?) to run several years ago under Win7. Actually, I was quite bored by the game play, as it was great in its time, but that was a long time ago!

Status: offline 		Just yesterday I received and installed The Settlers (Serf City: Life is Feudal for America). Still a great game and a beauty to look at, and I know how to get my way around MS-DOS and its software. So anyone in here with experience with Fields of Glory?

Status: offline 		Fields of Glory is one of the first real-time wargame, very decent and well-made by Sid Meier. It is available on many sites of abandonware and it has not to be bought - abandonware means that a producer abandoned this product and it is free-available. You need some DOS emulator to run this game however, the best is DosBox. Concerning my own opinion, the game is worth a look and play, but I prefer more tradicional, turn-based wargames. And game is quite short - only six scenarios, included two hypothetical.

Status: offline 		As some have said, FOG was quite a novelty in its time, but it was quirky and buggy and didn't reflect Napoleonic Warfare very convincingly at all, much less Waterloo etc. I would skip this without question. There were some Napoleonic Sid Meier's Gettysburg spinoffs that were later and "better", if you like that unplayable real time action with stuff happening everywhere so fast you can't really keep up. These were all mouse sport titles IMO, not "war games".
