Any games here similar to the old Combat Mission series. I really use to love Barbarossa to Berlin.

Thanks

I occasionally play the early Combat Mission games on my Windows 10 laptop. I find that Alt-tab a few times and opening another program, then closing it, and then CMBO/CMBB/CMAK all work Ok for a quick game - random setups being one reason I like the CM games.

I've got Panzer Command Ostfront but rarely play it.

Panzer Command Ostfront doesn't like windows 10. Crashes very often for me. So often, it doesn't get much play.
I'm so tempted to get the latest CM. But $60. Then some more $ for somethings, i'm not even sure what.
Install looks like a faff too.

As long as you didn't already own the games before any upgrades the $60 will get you the latest 'edtition'. I think it's the #4 engine. But any new upgrades will cost you $10. So I bought the first one, Normandy. Then had to buy the upgrade. Then had to buy the upgrade. Then had to buy the upgrade. Then said forget this, no more upgrades for me. Also, expansions and equipment packs will cost you extra of course. Bought three of those for two of the games. There's a plethora of player mods but not sure how it all works these days.

Install to the upgrades seems to always have some problems for some people but not for everyone. Not unusual for a game.

Give it a rest, no one forced you to buy anything extra. As Erik said, take it up directly with Battlefront if you feel so aggrieved.

Please stop harassing me. I merely verified Ezzler's post about price and explained what he didn't have knowledge of. What you are doing is harassment. I really don't want to be banned from the forum because you have some kind of axe to grind. Leave me alone.

Leave Lobster alone, Merchant. He is an asset to these forums, especially TOAW IV among others. We need more like him.

You are a freakin' newbie with 25 posts and a year's experience. With all due respect to you, you should show more to others.

And now, time to buy Aggressors!!

The first three Combat Mission were (and are) among the best games I ever played. I always keep them on my HD - which is telling

I bought CM Normandy, and from the very beginning the "meh" ruled unchallenged. Smaller in scope, with less equipments and the need to buy tons of DLC to upgrade the game to CM 1 level. Meh.

OTOH, the original three CM still work flawlessly on my laptop - and, looking at the hundreds scenarios downloaded from the internet, I don't plan to change game system soon.

Greetings RFalvo69,
Same experience for me with CM Normandy and Commonwealth DLC. Went back to CM Beyond Normandy, Barbarossa to Berlin & Afrika Korps and tons of user made scenarios.

But I do like CM Afghanistan because of the subject matter and using turns rather than real time.
Panzer Command Ostfront is a good alternative/addition too.

I couldn't get the old CM games to go widescreen on Win10 laptop, playing in that little square box was a no go. Tried everything i could think of or find on the internet, never could get them 1920X1080, shame cause up until that point they were always on my computers.

Being an addict, I am well past the old games. I'm sure someone here has played CM Black Sea, for example. I will not buy past Version 3 on any of the games, partly because of install difficulties (for me). Fortress Italy was particularly difficult to update to V3 (at the time).

But there is no game (imo) that can outgun CMBS and its siblings (except for that crazy-expensive tank sim). The scenario editor is among best-on-market, although Aggressors Rome is impressing the heck out of me. CM AI is not great and there's a lot of micro, so honestly, the CM games sort of wear me out at my age (63).

Most significantly, I have hundreds of mods and scenarios for these games free, so that makes up for any of Battlefront's pricing policies. More than 100 scenarios for CMBN V3 alone

And thank you Chris Merchant for not taking offense at my comments. I seem to remember you may have been a well-known game writer or something a while back?

Best to all,

Mike

If you post in the Panzer Command Ostfront forum next time you try and it crashes we might be able to help. I run it it Win 10. (except for MapMaker)

Thanks
Rick

I just tried it again. Just to see. It crashed to desktop after 5 or six turns. I was losing anyway.

I find as I don't play it much, if ever, that I don't follow the UI at all well. And it is looking pretty dated now.
It was fine n the old machine.

i shall probably get CM one day. i say that every year, and never have. But this year.. will be different...or not.

I've posted my biased opinion before, but PCO is outdated and I had problems too. But I remember the awesome free update the devs provided like it was yesterday. Now it would be a $20 DLC.

One thing PCO had that I loved: You could change weapons' stats and performance on any vehicle, ammo type, just about everything. And that CM cannot do.

Well you can´t say that about CMBS any more as CMSF2 has just been released But I agree, I love CMBS too.

I do find the recent release of Armored Brigade a very good alternative to us CMBS/SF fans. Not 3D but it fill´s the void nicely IMHO.
