Gents,

I'm in the market for a new game. I'm seeking a Japanese opponent, preferably an experienced player with a well-established presence on the forum (similar to my most recent opponents, John III, Miller and Obvert, who I'd gladly play again but who currently have their own plates full, I think). Players meeting those criteria are in short supply and high demand, so I know I may have to wait quite some time and bump this post for days, weeks, months.

I'm open to nearly any Scenario or Mod. I prefer minimal house rules, though standard ones applying to the opening day are fine.

I prefer an average of a turn a day, though I can also handle more than that. One-day or two-day turns is likewise fine.

If one of you rarified individuals finds yourself with an opening on your dance card, please let me know.

As an alternative, I might consider a role-reversal game, in which a mostly/totally Japanese player takes the Allied side, and I take the dark side.

Dan

I'm fortunate that a regular, long term member of the community has an opening on his dance card (I did think it might take weeks or longer to find a match). He'll soon begin working on Turn 1. When that comes in a few days, I'll start an AAR.

Said opponent, who was coming back to the game after a long absence, decided it's too much for him.

So I shall patiently resume seeking an opponent. I hope it doesn't take six months, but it might. I'll bump this from time to time, hoping to shake a good Forumite out of the tree when he's ripe and ready.

Dan-

The best to you in finding a formidable foe soon.

Looking forward to following your AAR again.

Best Regards,

Thanks, Terry.

Last night, I gave some thought to how in the world I'd approach another AAR. Readers have seen the game start months 11 million times, so I don't think I'd simply present a straightforward re-hash of major things going on. But I haven't hit on a good alternative. Maybe I'll write in poetry form. I'm sure Forumites would find that scintillating, gripping, moving reading.

Dan-

Writing an entire AAR in poetry would be an extremely daunting task!

Your last AAR helped me a great deal and was fun to read.

I struggled with the format of my AAR for months in an effort to find an interesting and fun vehicle for the readers.

At times, it seemed like I bit off a substantial chore taking on the task of writing a daily AAR.

In the end, I am glad I did so that El Lobo and I have a documented history of our range war.

Best Regards,

-Terry

Hi Dan,

I might have space for another game if you think I fit the bill.

I am re-starting as Japan against Herbie......and so have a ready made Scn 2 first turn, so we could start as soon as you like.

PDU on and the only interesting wrinkle is that withdrawals are off.

It might be interesting to see how two different Allied players play a similar game ....
although I suspect after 10 turns they will diverge greatly.

Or even happy to try my hand at Allies if you want, as my Allied Opponent drifted away.....
I've only played the Allies once before and Miller put me to the sword.

I am good for a turn a day.....and play more leaning toward the historical.

Let me know if your are interested.

Best

David

David,

Yeah, I'd be interested. I prefer taking the Allied side, as it's been six years since I last played the early game.

Do you prefer Stock Scenario Two or a DaBabes version that used stacking limits, enhanced AA, etc.? I'm good with either one. I last played Stock 2 against Miller, perhaps nine years ago.

PDU On and Withdrawals Off suits me. It'll save me from re-learning that I can't withdraw subs from Pearl Harbor.

I have found myself in the camp of players who treat this as a game, but I think I can adapt to a more historical style of play.

Dan

The game is on. Dave has already sent the first turn. I feel like a young man who asked for a date and ended up getting married that night. A whirlwind romance.

A man and his penguin... I'm so not going there. There's gotta be a whole bunch of flocking jokes/yokes just waiting to be cracked...

On the flap-side, I've read through old AARs by fabertong and think you've picked up a great opponent for a fun game. If the mighty penguin starts an ARR I'll probably migrate over to his roost, but it's been eons since faber hast done a regular AAR.

I wish you both a fun-filled game and look forward to hearing once again the exploits of the mighty fabertong and the crafty southern gentleman.

No, it must be Chaucer (with translation):

43 A KNYGHT ther was, and that a worthy man,
A KNIGHT there was, and that (one was) a worthy man,
44 That fro the tyme that he first bigan
Who from the time that he first began
45 To riden out, he loved chivalrie,
To ride out, he loved chivalry,
46 Trouthe and honour, fredom and curteisie.
Fidelity and good reputation, generosity and courtesy.
47 Ful worthy was he in his lordes werre,
He was very worthy in his lord's war,
48 And therto hadde he riden, no man ferre,
And for that he had ridden, no man farther,
49 As wel in cristendom as in hethenesse,
As well in Christendom as in heathen lands,
50 And evere honoured for his worthynesse;
And (was) ever honored for his worthiness
;

Thanks for the poetry suggestions and snippets, gents. I'm currently working on a stirring free-verse poem about lichens. I'll post it in my AAR when I'm done. I wish to amaze and titillate.

All I saw were a lot of heartwarming pictures. Like this one shot several years from now reading the merged AAR
