[B]Yo All,
I am newly returned to playing SPWAW after a 2year intervention by life, and I had a couple of questions.
1)Does anyone know what happened to Todd Brady author of the SP Primer?
2) Has anyone tried updating his Primer, or doing a new one with SPWAW as the context? I know there are some tutorials and mini-articles out there, but I was wondering if there was something as comprehensive as his work.
Thank you and happy Father's day to all of you Fathers out there!

1st question , no.
2nd question, while not as extensive, there is this from Larry Holt that is pretty informative. Look towards the bottom under tactics.

Yes, you may. Just a little show of respect for a friend that I hope all turns out well for and comes back to his other family.

Jim

Its important to note that Todd's Primer was last updated in 1996; vast changes have been made to Steel Panthers since that time (like SPWAW versions 1.x to 7.x!! :D ).

Tracer you are correct. A few things of note.

1) The guide was written for Steel Panthers 1 from SSI (not for SP WaW or SP WW2)

2) Even though 1 is true there are some very good points or lessons in the guide (perhaps tactics or ideas that could be tested in either SP WaW or SP WW2 and then modified to fit either game).

3) I wonder what ever happened to all thoughs "early birds" from the SP1, SP2 and SP3 area?

4) Totally off the cuff, I wonder if Gary G. every plays SP1, SPWaW or SPWW2?

Cheers,
Regards~

Tracer, you are joking right?

If not, please forgive me. I meant:

Gary Grigsby

He is the fellow that programmed Steel Panthers I, II, and III (or SP1, SP2 and SP3) for SSI (Strategic Simulations, Inc.)

After which in I think 96 or 97 SSI gave the code to a group of people which eventually split into two groups:

SP WaW (from Matrix)
SP WW2 (from SP Camo)

What a blast from the past!

I found this 'primer' one of the most useful bits of advice for playing the game in the dark ages...but I only had a half wirtten draft, without the .gif files. I'll enjoy catching up with it again.

It's certainly old, it can be a bit 'gamey', and differences in scale can be a problem in adapting it to SPWAW, but the major caveat is that it focused on tactics against the AI.

But it has a very useful coverage of tactics as they translate from the real world to the game. It really helped me interpret tactics into the game. It is well worth a look.

I'm delighted to see it in its full glory, and thanks to 'Robert', who says it's the only copy of the final version available.

i found the tactics to be usefull for lots of wargames. especially if u r a newby to turn based games. the basics seem to work in rts as well. i think this guide could have been included in the training section of spwaw. my 2 cents.

DOH! Sorry, didn't make the connection (paying for the good times I had in the 70's I guess). That name DOES appear on quite a few of the computer games stacked up in my closet. ;)

I read this primer around the time I bought SP2; it helped then and it would be a great help to a newbie now. I was just pointing out that with the numerous changes made since then, things like numbers, distances, ratios, etc should be taken in a broader sense. But as others have pointed out, the basics never change.

Tracer, really it was my bag, I usually use (on another forum or in private emails) Gary G. mainly cause I can never remember how to spell Grigsby (lol).
