Hello WiTE Fans,

I am somewhat new to the game, tried to read and understand the manual and also tried the large campaign as German vs. AI. But, I guess, this went not too well. I did not manage to capture either Leningrad or Moscow before the winter.

So, I think, I did some things wrong and here are the questions:

1. What should I do with all my AP? I think, they are important somehow, but so far I changed a leader here and there and shuffled divisions around to keep the HQ´s in their command limit. But I feel, there are still plenty of points left. What to do?

2. In my opinion the most valuable Generals have to command on korps level. Because any HQ level higher any checks will seldom be successful anyway. So, in example, famous Manstein should stay with his korps and not take over the Panzergruppe or even Heeresgruppe, just because he is then not valuable any more. Is that, in priniple, correct?

3. How do you use your Air force? So far (besdes the 1st turn airfiel bombing), I mostly did recon missions and outomated ground support only. Doe it make a difference to bomb a ground hex before the attack? The message says only "Target bombed" or something like that, but no result like fortification reduction, losses or anything. How about strategic bombing of cities / factories / HQs?

4. Just yesterday started the "Road to Leningrad". My airforce seems not willing to intercept enemy resupply missions? Works this as intended? But ground moves are interdicted, I think even with fighter cover. I am a bit confused here.

Thank you so much for your answers.
Mirko

You should organize SU. Some corp , or armies for exaple the 9A have too much of tchem. Each corp should have 2 battalion art., 1 battalion heave art. 2-3 bat AAA. And give the most imprtant corps stugs, sappers etc.
ITs important too have Mainstein and Model in AGN to take Leningrad. Then take tchem to the south to take Moscow. I change leaders in each turn to maximaze CV of my PZFiv and the best InfDiv.
Use your transport planes to drop fuel for tanks. And repair RR in casic way. I mean. The 1. RR along Dvina to Smolensk. The 2. to Leningrad. The 3. from Mol,davia to Stalino. The 4. I use to make RR to Gomel.

I found all of useful answers and material in the library of resources here http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4317692

Points spent on HQ buildups seems to be quite important.

I found a lot of interesting things about using the airforce in those posts from this AAR http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4250683 - also one section in there said keeping your best leaders in the lowest commands.

I guess the interception problem has something to do with air doctrine?

There is a new updated manual on the forums with all the changelogs incorporated and some new examples and explanations of how things work that weren't terribly well documented in the original manual. If you haven't had a chance yet, download it and take a look.

Also, a good thing to do is to follow some AAR's. I just wrapped one up that I hope gives some idea of how to handle the Soviets. There are a couple of others on the library of WitE Resources thread that somebody else referred to higher up.

The poster asks lots of great questions. This is one of the most complex games I have played. The more I play — The more I realize just how complex is this game . Yes bombing a target twice with substantial air power causes disruption. Disruption covered into fatigue. A percentage of fatigue results in a lower adjusted CV further resulting in a better chance of successful combat results. This is the game’s complexity. If you just considered maybe 10 dead men and maybe an AFV or gun .. the results might not seem worth it. But if you follow the chain of events I describe — pre-bombing followed by ground support might be the difference between held and retreat ..

The game is full of nuances that if mastered will make you a much better player. The good news is that these complexities provide a long time of entertainment .

Also bombing raises the air unit's morale and experience (assuming they don't take too many casualties), making them more effective in the long term. Bomb till you drop!
