It's been over a year since first inquiring about a Commander Civil War game or anything similar to it. Not giving up hope that something may get developed...

Been off-line for several months until a few days ago, racked up a lot of hours playing a couple of games without the internet BS. Being gone did not quench my thirst for a new Commander game, can't help but think about how close the Commander The Great War came to being a gem of a game, however I do still think a Commander Civil War game would be a project worth fulfilling. Ian, I've haven't forgotten about you either...

Well, to me CTGW was a true Gem and I am playing it quite often - so any new release based on that system and near that time period (Civil War, Balkan's War, Crimea etc)

would have my support and money.

So +1 to your petition Operating.

Yes, I have been checking out your mod thread for awhile, quite the project. The only thing is; I don't do mods..

mods are Gems, it gives us all something that at times is missing from a game, which can be added by a modder who alters a given game engine to do something that from the start it wasn't always meant to do, i love mods, it keeps a game fresh and make it again playable and can alter much more also.

at times once a number of hours are in, for me, it's the only thing i do with some games i own, play mods on them

To tell the truth; I have SCWWI and it's Expansion Breakthrough, played the heck out of the game, even enjoyed it, but the tiles really turned me off, however SC's latest works use hexagons which to me makes for smoother game play. Might add that the few times I tried mods did not really work out and personally I do not care for unpacking this and change that to claim a mod, then again I'm not the most savvy with computer skills.

Hi all!!

Still campaigning for a "Commander at Civil War (CTCW)" style game. I'd even settle for a late GG version much like his WW II era stuff. Currently playing a couple of CTGW pbem matches of which I'll be posting AARs about at that forum.

Anything happening Iain?

Update: Here is the CTGW AAR currently in progress: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4550489&mpage=5&key= as of today 12/01/18

Got up with the kids Christmas morning, the kids had a blast, they got everything they wanted, real fun to watch. When I looked around the Christmas tree all bright with lights I didn't see what I wanted most: "Commander The Civil War" the Matrix/Slitherine Grinch let me down again. A free Holiday Sale game coupon would have softened the blow..!! A belated Happy New Year to you all..!!

No, the moderators are pretty good here unless it get's political, it's very much a free wheeling forum. Spamming is not tolerated either, otherwise, share the wealth..

Passed the 2 year anniversary of this thread recently and still waiting for some kind of news from Matrix/Slitherine group on any CW development. Also noticed today others who posted threads that are interested in this era, or something close to it. So what do you say Matrix/Slitherine?

Still keeping hope alive That something like Commander The Civil War is in development, or anything Civil War is in development. Would really like a GG re-make of the Civil War IGUGO style...

Hello Ian,

It's been about two and a half years since you commented about Civil War game development (or rather lack of development). Curious if anything has surfaced that may fill the void?

Thanks, Rip Van Winkle

I like the Commander game design, but I wonder, would the Strategic Command 3 game be doable for Civil War as well?

SCWWI has been updated from tiles to hexes, other changes I'm not sure of. As far as The American Civil War goes I seem to recall a mod that is being produced, or had been produced from a SC game, it may have been mentioned in an above post (will check). The last COMMANDER style game ran so smoothly and encompassed land and water attributes that could be a good fit for a CW type game, same could be said of a GG style game, although the earlier GG "War Between the States" game had potential, I felt the WEGO system stunk and the auto-resolve battle everything stunk. Personally I prefer a grand scale CW game, it does not need to be super hard, and does not need to be historically correct in every sense, it just needs to be playable..

My preference would be a civil war game that's essentially a turn-based tactical simulation, like CWG2, but also has a simplified strategic overlay. Battles should not take months to complete. I don't think there's anything out there that meets my expectations.

This is an edited version of my original post. I meant battles should NOT take months to complete.
While John Tiller makes great civil war games the battles take a very long time to play and I've honestly never finished one.

Hi Andy, I have Civil War Generals II (bought it boxed sealed with original manual $40.00), but never played it. Couldn't get it to run on my pc. When you say battles should take months: Do you mean to play the entire game, or each individual battle? Tell ya what I'd really like is: A TWCW (Total War Civil War) factory game (not a mod). A game that has game support with updates/upgrades, ect.. That would really cool my jets for awhile if Matrix/Slitherine did nothing in the meantime..

Just passed the third anniversary on this thread and have not given up hope that a Commander Civil War may get developed, Perhaps Erik Rutkins could share a few words on any Civil War game development? Perhaps a redevelopment of War Between the States from 2 by 3. Anything?

OK, it's been over 4 and a half years since starting this thread and had to go back 31 forum pages to to retrieve it for a post. Certainly by now had expected some news on upcoming CW games being developed (perhaps I missed something relevant), anyhow still in the hunt for a Commander style CW game that would keep myself and perhaps others busy for years to come. Spent sometime yesterday trying to find a way to communicate with 2 by 3 games, but had no success doing so. If there is any other CW developments out there please let me (and others) know by posting here. Not giving up hope of finding a CW game that will fit the bill. I'd settle for a decent WW I game, or even a Franco - Prussian style game grand campaign, we all have our dreams, just maybe, "just maybe" one of my wishes could come true. Have a nice day to all..
