We hold and inflict some nice damage, but the base is almost surrounded. Allies have so many units infiltrating everywhere.

Japan continues to fall apart in China & barely holding on in Manchuko.

Allies surge entire fleet against the KB, which had been hanging around the sub infested waters near Brunei.

The KB decides to withdraw, anticipating another multiple small task force surge but the Akagi takes a torpedo, but is otherwise outside of the Allied fleets.

With all of this Soviet attention in this theater, the Germans must be running rampant on their Eastern From. Oh, that is right, they were!

Hankow falls today, we retreat across a river into no mans land...more units out of the war forever.

Not really sure what happened here. I guess bombers caught loaded trains or or a depot somewhere.

I noticed when the airfield is overrun, that the planes show up as ops losses and not ground losses.

Dec 2, 1942

After a brief time away for an unexpected funeral, and then a planned wedding that son #1 marry (full military wedding, sword arch) we are back to this very depressing war.

China is cut off by rail from Manchuko, the Soviets are pivoting their main assault again.

I stupidly threw away 3 fighter squadrons and 1 fb squadron just recently, robbing me of good pilots and Japan's best plane models. Doesn't look good.

Miri invaded today, subs show up off Sakhalin in heavy concentrations. Really, nothing positive to report.

I guess this was a probing attack by one armored unit supported by artillery?

A rare success west of Kalgan, the Soviet artillery is incredibly powerful. I broke the IJA divisions down here to dig in faster, and to provide more targets for the Soviet bombardments. Worked so far.

DB3-Ts and TB-3s are different airframe types.

the DB-3T is a torpedo capable version of the DB-3.

TB-3s are slow lumbering strategic bombers.

With an open cockpit and no power assist. How very Russian!

Yea, I did a double take on them, with a hearty "you've got to be kidding me reaction" when first examining what I would have to work with when the Russians activated.

Then again, I STILL have a few I15bis airframes operational in Octiber '45 at small isolated airfields with no potential for airframe upgrade.

I'm at October 31st so one more day till I start getting P80 Shooting Stars!

Can you share a few econ pages from tracker? I know your economy is not at a 100% ...

Sure, but sling a few I-16s under your wings, and Bob's your uncle mate!

Not even the B-29 carried its own fighters along with it.

In fact, if the Allies had just equipped all their B-17s and Lancasters with a couple of under-wing fighters apiece, the air war in Europe would have been over a lot sooner!

I used to log a lot of hours in the Il-2 flight sim with buddies in the States. It's a lot of fun flying one of those huge lumbering TB-3s hopping around firing guns from the different positions as your mates in I-15s or the like try to shoot you down.

Cheers,
CB

Pax,

I stopped using tracker months and months ago, it was so grim. Of course it was a huge mistake because I accidentally shut down all plane research and development.

Now with the Wargamr game over, I will reload tracker and comply with your wishes. Got to steel up my nerves first!

Dec 20, 1942

Soviets have been bombing for the last several days. It started at night on Hokkaido and Sakhalin. They yesterday they went for the oil at Niigata during the daytime. Then today at Osaka. The first big strike went in with only the local chutai of Nicks responding, bleeding CAP arrived for the followup attack.

Since I am going to run out of fuel, losing the HI isn't all that bad. But this early in the war, there simply isn't enough radar set equipped units to defend Honshu.

Of course a fresh AA regiment just arrived by rail after the attack.

Soviets did lose 14 DB-3T for the day.
