Agreed, $39.99 per battle is steep. I'm pretty happy with Matrix John Tiller Civil War Battleground Series.

Have to remember though that most (not all) of the titles contain multiple campaigns and battles. For instance, Chickamauga has besides the cover battle Perryville, Murfreesboro, Missionary Ridge, and Lookout Mountain.

Actually - I was calling my own hand Mr. Twitchy in this case to stop it from ruining me financially

I love just about anything JTS puts out.

If I had the budget, I would buy each new Gold release and then wind up being one of those Wall-E fat guys .... so a good thing I can't ...

Is there a full scenario list available for the Matrix JTS Battlegrounds game? I'm trying to compare to JTS Campaigns. I know JTS campaigns are more in depth, but would like to know the number of scenarios in battlegrounds. Is it 20, 30, 40+?

Hi Ringo,

I've seen the screenshots, but that only shows a subset of the scenarios. I'm looking for a full listing. Just checked every thread in the BG Forum and was unable to find it.

Hi Ringo,

I'd appreciate it but I don't think you need to go to the effort. I know the major battles included, if you could just give an estimate of the total # of scenarios by major battle that'd be super helpful.

hi,

there is a count for each module :

# Module Scn Campaign
01 - Campaign Corinth 212	1
02 - Campaign Ozark 98	3
03 - Campaign Franklin 306	1
04 - Campaign Gettysburg 315	1
05 - Campaign Peninsula 133	1
06 - Campaign Shiloh 680	6
07 - Campaign Vicksburg 59	1
08 - Campaign Atlanta 233	5
09 - Campaign Chickamauga 259	8
10 - Campaign Antietam 369	6
11 - Campaign Chancellorsville 305	8
12 - Campaign Overland 111	5
13 - Campaign Petersburg 195	3

Some scenarii are included in campaign ( but could play alone ), the other are Historical/ Alternate / What If / Weather Different.
I got a total list of each scenario with date, location, Nb Turn duration and summary for each modules but it's about 5 Mo. So if you have a place somewhere I'll could post it.
It's not the last version ( because of time most version 2.0 are from Yesterday) but there are not a lot of difference ( very different than Pz Campaign who are Gold and add a lot of scenarii about 2 times for each Gold Release )

Cheers

Thank you! So I get ALL of this for $40 with Matrix BG ACW? That's an insane deal.

It's not realy the same yuo can't compare 8 scenatii in BG Civil War with 24 Scenarii

and JTS Civil war battles

For Example BF Antietam had 25 Scenariis

and JTS had 369

look at the list attached without detail

all CAM* Scenarii are the Campaign Scenarii

you are free to prefer BG but you can't tell it's insane it's not the same game

Cheers

p.s. edited because the List can't fit correctly here so i post it in attached file

I get they aren't the same, but its $30 to get like 80% of what would cost $400 to get. A lot of the JTS scenarios are slight variations of existing scenarios. I have JTS titles and they're good, but BG is a hell of a deal.

EDIT: Thank you again for the list!

One other thing you should realize about the "new" JTS games is that there are a lot of new rule implementations. For example a much more granular casualty system, and an artillery overhaul. Too many to list, of course, but these JTS games have been where the innovation that began with Battleground continued forward.

The problems with BG, for me, are:
1-The units are much too small in 3d mode.
2-The number of scenarios is much, much less. I don't see how you figure you get 80% of the Campaign games with BG. From what was just posted it looks like Campaign Shiloh has over 600 scenarios, BG Shiloh only 25.

I mean, outside of the JTS Campaigns not available, a lot of the JTS scenarios are slight variations of the same thing. Maybe not 80%, but you're getting most of the big scenarios and a lot of the other ones with BG. Like I said, the JTS games are great, but it's not 600 unique scenarios.

I'm going to leave this thread now, because it seems I've stirred the pot. I'm merely pointing out that $30 for like 100-200 scenarios is a pretty good deal given the breadth it covers vs paying $40 for one theatre with a lot of scenarios, many that have small variations (such as a minor alt history change or PBEM play, etc).

OK, I get it. Your point has merit.
If the 3d units in BG were larger I'd consider it.

With BG, you get Antietam, Bull Run (both battles), Chickamauga, Gettysburg, and Shiloh.

With JTS Civil War Battles, you get those battles and also many other smaller, side battles within each larger campaign (not just variations on the marquee battles).

Not to mention that with JTS Civil War Battles, you get coverage of so many other campaigns and battles beyond (way beyond) the original BG roster. By the time the final installment in the series is released, the JTS CWB series will have covered every significant engagement in the American Civil War (hundreds of distinct battles, large and small; not just slight variations on the marquee battles).

With JTS CWB, you have a much, much larger pool of active PBEM opponents. With BG, you are mostly restricted to solo AI play.

If you stick with BG, you miss out on a host of game engine (and data and graphics) improvements in the JTS series of games.

And equally important: BG is a dead end, most likely never to improved (or bug fixed) again. If you stick with BG, you will miss out on all the improvements envisioned in the still alive and kicking JTS Civil War Battles series (where all updates are and will continue to be free of charge).

But, as in all things, YMMV.
