First French CL takes as many hits as possible, then another French CL.

After that CW ship takes A, then the last French ship takes A if needed, then CW again if needed.

If the Germans get to choose they will attack each ship before doubling up in order to try and remove them from the sea area - in the order Gloire, Leygues, Primaguet.

Naval Combat:
Throws:
French - 1
German - 4
French - 4,8,5

Note the 7 thrown for Leygues was actually an 8 - but this made no difference to the result.

The Germans plump for Scharnhorst to take the hit and a 5 aborts the battleship

Naval Search (cont)

Baltic - Round 3

The Axis roll a 4 and the Allies a 9. The Germans use the 8 Surprise Points to increase the AA damage but can't get better than aborted.

The AA rolls are 8,8 and the bomber is aborted.

Same rubbish result. How about if I try aborting with the British instead of the battle? It will mean no Hurricane in the 1-box but I'm not bringing in any fighters anyway so worth a try?

OK, abort planes after ships go down.

Fighter to Frederikshavn, LND to NE of Aarhus.

Well that worked - it was obviously the abort that totally screwed the program.

It's not ideal that you've lost a fighter from the sea box but we can discuss what is, and what is not, allowed in the Baltic in subsequent impulses.

Nov/Dec 1939
Impulse: 2 (Axis)

Strategic Bombardment: None
Ground Strike: None

Rail Movement:
Germany

An ENG DIV heads to Dusseldorf

Land Movement:
Japan

The Japanese head south and take Nanyang on the march. The US take up residence in couldn't care less corner (an 8 is thrown). Meanwhile the Manchurian Territorial heads for Vladivostok and an election to be held there soon.... yes he's The Manchurian Candidate

Italy

There is some reorganisation on the French border and the Libyan Blackshirt Divisions move into Tunisia.

Germany

The Germans move on Amsterdam from north and south and this takes up all six moves.

Land Combat
Japan

The Japanese target the Chinese Militia in the mountains.

Germany

Amsterdam is the focus of the German plans

Italy

The French unit on the Swiss border is the target for the Italians.

The Germans bring in an He-115C for 2 points
The Italians bring in both bombers for 12 points

Yamamoto tries some HQ support. An 8 is thrown and the support fails.

Land Combat:

There are three attacks. The Amsterdam attack is automatic.

I start in France where the odds are 25.5:6 (4:1) no modifiers. Which table do the French want to choose?

I assume China (also no modifiers) will be assault as if the fractionals work it will otherwise be automatic?

Impulse: 2 (Axis)

Land Combat (cont):

The French fractionals fails (646 rolled) and the odds remain at 4:1. A 7 is thrown and the defenders are destroyed at the cost of disorganisation.

The Chinese also see their fractionals fail (716 rolled) and a 5 is thrown for the land combat. The Militia is destroyed but the Japanese will play no further part in this turn.

Amsterdam falls to the Germans.

Air Rebase:
Japan

Two fighters are re-based to the north

Germany

Two Stukas are rebased to Hamburg and a third bomber is sent to Hanover. A Ju-52 moves to Aachen and a fighter rebases to Stettin

Italy

A fighter is rebased to Turin.

Weather for Allied Impulse 3: A 2 is thrown and it is fine everywhere.

The results of the naval combat in the Med were strange. Are you sure that Italy is at war with the CW? If not, that would make sense of them.

The Relations screen confirms the Italians are at war with both the CW and France. A CW CONV was aborted in the battle.

Can you add some detail please as to why the combat was strange?

I think it's fine, in submarine combat only CPs take losses. Attacker need to use surprise points to target other ships.

N/D 39 Allied 3

I'm starting my impulse.

USSR declares war on Persia to make this global conflict.

4 is rolled, US gets mad as they seem to do every time.

With who do you align Persia?

Where do you place the CAV?

Northern Europe after Axis impulse 2.

Lots of units are in Poland, CW forcing Germany take combined gives Allies time. However, Italians breaking French defense in the south was not part of the plan.

France is asking CW to send units to Calais.

Netherlands is asking CW to send units to Rotterdam (Belgium supports that).

Germany is asking CW to enter Germany.

So many good options...
