Declarations of War and Alignments: None

Germany: Land
Italy: Land
Japan: Naval

Port Attack: None
Naval Air: None

Naval Movement:
Japan

The Japanese remove surplus convoys. A fleet heads for the South China Sea and a second one for the China Sea. The various TRS and AMPH scattered across various Chinese ports are repatriated. The submarine fleet heads for Formosa.

Strategic Bombardment: None
Ground Strike:

The Germans announce 4 ground strikes on 3 targets, while the Italians add one additional target.

The French aircraft are as seen on the map plus two unseen in Paris - both with interception ranges of 3.

For those in interception range the Axis have those fighters seen on map only. The Germans have one other fighter in Brussels not seen but it can't reach.

As can be seen above, I amended my orders for Japan to a Naval. No engagements, dice rolls or decisions had been made by either side up to that point so I trust this is acceptable?

How do the French wish to react to the Ground Strike announcements?

No worries with Japan changing to Naval.

The French will send a 5 factor fighter to both of the Stukas, thanks.

Edit: If one of the 3 factors can reach the most northerly strike, send that.

Ground Strike (Air Interception sub-phase):

There are three Stukas - the furthest north hex has two bombers - one of which is a Stuka. But I suspect you are referring to the two you can see so I will put 2 x 5 fighters on the two southerly Stukas and the Hawk can reach the northern-most hex.

East of Rouen - Round 1

Allied (16) AA - The French decide whether to abort the Axis front fighter or bomber. Which one does the French choose?
Axis (11) DC - There is no French bomber to clear through

Round 2

Allied (10) DC - The Stuka is cleared through
Axis (15) DX - The French fighter is shot down (the pilot is saved)

Good guess for the fighters.

Abort the bomber, thanks.

Ground Strike (Air Interception sub-phase) (cont):

Northeast of Paris - Round 1

Allied (12) AC - The Stuka is cleared through
Axis (7) AA - The French fighter is aborted

In the absence of AllenK and in line with previous rationale I abort the fighter one hex further back than whence it started. This keeps it in range of the front (should AllenK wish to reorganise) but, at the start of a summer turn, also takes it away from potential overrun.

Ground Strike (Air Interception sub-phase) (cont):

East of Paris - Round 1

Allied (4) AX - I assume the French will choose to destroy the Stuka given previous preference. The pilot survives.
Axis (20) AXPX - The French fighter is shot down and the pilot killed.

What do the French want to do with their AA unit?

Ground Strike - AA sub-phase:

I can't save the game at this point so I will make a guess at what AllenK would do and then we can re-run if he's not in agreement. The options are:

- Do nothing
- Double up on the two hexes
- Put all four hits on one hex
- a 1/3 split is pointless as the 1 would be no effect.

I decide to double up as there is little difference between 6 factors of AA and 12 (one column shift) and the Allies get two chances of stopping/reducing the ground strike.

Hex [54,30] is first:
6
6
7
5
7
4

Paris
5
5
2
2
6
5

Rail Movement: None
Land Movement:
Italy

Not much for the Italians to do as usual so they concentrate on getting out of the way of the Germans in Northwest Italy

Germany

The Germans re-position troops in Italy and France.

Land Combat:
Germany

Just one attack is announced; east of Rouen. The odds are currently (35:11) 3:1+4. The Germans decline HQ Support but bring in two bombers for a potential 7 points.

The Axis have 1 x 4 and 2 x 3 fighters they can bring in.

Do the French want to bring in any aircraft?

East of Rouen - Round 1

Allied (15) DA - The Germans get the choice of what to abort and aborts the front fighter
Axis (8) DA - The French get to decide whether to abort the front fighter or bomber. The Bomber departs

Round 2

Allied (10) DC - The Germans clear any bomber through and choose the Ju-88
Axis (8) DA - The French fighter is aborted

That's it from me tonight. I've put the fighter back whence it came (due to range) and moved the bomber one hex west. Let me know if that is okay.

Land Combat:
Germany

So the attack is a 3:1+4 on the Blitz chart. The fractionals succeed (251 is thrown). The roll is a 1(5). All Germans are disorganised. The French lose a unit and retreat.

Air Rebase
Japan

The Japanese begin loading their carriers with aircraft. Starting with Hiryu and Soryu, which take on their 50% of their capacity each.

HQ Reorganisation:
Germany

Manstein and von Rundstedt are used to reorganise as many units as they can.

M/J 41 Allies 2

No DoW or alignments.

Land: France, China
Combined: The rest.

CW sends 3 BB and 2 CA/CL to North Sea 3-box. 2 CA sail from Alex to East Med 4-box.

US puts a CP into Marshalls and Marianas and moves a TRANS from Dutch Harbour to San Diego.

Blenheims try a ground strike at Tobruk.

Not up to Stuka standard!

No rail moves.

USSR moves some units in the Minsk area and the Communists move Mao to the NW and his place is taken by INF from Sian.

The Chinese make some minor adjustments.

The BEF withdraw from Boulogne to Rouen and Gort falls back to the west bank of the Seine.

The French shuffle a few units about to try and improve the defences.

One combat is declared at Tobruk. The RN provides 10 factors of shore bombardment and Wavell is requested to provide additional support.

Wavell responds to the request and takes personal charge (2 rolled). Weighing up the options, he decides on a set piece frontal assault.

The attack is partially successful in that it takes the port. I convert the shatter to retreat. Which unit do the Italians sacrifice as rear-guard?

I'd like to propose that we don't use the house rule for Strategic Bombardment going forward in this game. Please let me know your thoughts on this.

What do the French want to do?

Hello

Great AAR, thanks for sharing.
Warspite, I salute you. The only silver lining was that with such rolls, it could not get much worse.

Best Regards

Ground Strike (Air Combat Sub-Phase):

The Axis have nothing to counter with and so the line up is as follows:

In line with what was discussed between the players I've thrown both dice at the same time (on the basis that there is no issues on which aircraft to abort/clear through).

Allied 13 (DA) - The Italian bomber is aborted
Axis 9 (AC) - No bomber to clear through

Where does the French fighter return to?

I can't see AllenK on the forum and so, in line with previously agreed strategy I put back from whence it came. I do this as this keeps the aircraft 3 hexes from being overrun, is behind the river, and even if the Germans got to that hex, the French will be defending Paris from all hexes including this one.
