Italy. Supply (1/2). Not only was Germany betrayed by the Italian government they installed, but local Italian forces (mostly police) seize all axis controlled hexes in Italy not covered by a German zone of control lock. This breaks supply to all German units in Italy.

Turn 21. Jan/Feb 1943. End of Turn.

Italy. Supply (2/2). In response the Gestapo aided by select SS units ruthless suppress these pro-allied Italian bands and quickly restore control of all hexes in German occupied Italy, which restores supply to all German units in Italy.

Actually, I used my skill of knowledge of knowing how to edit the game file to return control from CW to Germany of hexes
that changed control during this second surprise surrender of Italy to the CW.

Italian Unit Status. Post 2nd Surrender. Also, Italy lost all of their this turn builds, which just entered the production cycle just prior to this surrender.

By the way, it's a guarantee that Germany won't be liberating Italy a second time.

I would halt the game, maybe get a new one started, until this bug is fixed. This really should not have happened, and it is such a huge bug I think that it will be a priority.

Thanks.

I've invested 4-months in this game. In fact, it's 4-months exactly today. I started this game on December 27, 2018.

I've played 2 full turns since the initial conquest of Italy and 1 full turn since Germany liberated Italy. And, there's a lot that's happened in those 2 turns, not to mention the time and effort it took to play and document them (for this AAR).

Economically, Germany, or the Euro-Axis, take a hit of 12 BP's with the loss of production from 7 liberated Italian blue factories. Not to mention the benefit of any new Italian builds or repairs. German production is increased by the gain of 2 Italian red factories.

I plan to continue this game. There's nothing I can do about building or repairing Italian units. However, there is something I can do about loss production from the 7 Italian blue factories. I will handle this off the books. Basically, for as long as Germany controls Rome, for every Italian blue factory controlled by Germany I will increase German production by 1.75 BP's PROVIDED Germany has idled 1 resource specifically for that factory and which could be transported to that factory.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943.

Resource Lending. Both Germany's production gain from controlled Italian blue factories and the new USA to Great Britain lend lease of 3 BP's will be handled off the books (i.e., through game file editing). The reason for the first (i.e., production from Italian blue factories) I think is obvious, but the reason for the second (US Lend-lease to Great Britain) may not be to some, many or all. The reason for handling the Lend-Lease off the books is because I want that lend-lease to go through the Faeores Gap and I know that if I tried to do this through the program that it would fight me on this and frustrate me to no end. Not to mention all the time wasted. Therefore, I will handle it myself to avoid all this. I do realize that if the axis wreck the allied convoy lines that I will have to ensure these build points get through to Great Britain before anything else and may have to idle factories in Great Britain to achieve that "Off the Books". But, that is something I more than willing to live with versus fighting MWiF to route BP's/resources through the Faeroes Gap and not wreck other resoruces that have to travel through the Bay of Biscay.

The hexes changing control “behind” the front lines is actually a problem in the rules, not in the coding. The rule works perfectly for when Italy surrenders, and when a country is conquered with units from only one side present. But when both sides have units present, things get a little silly with hex control changes.

Brian, thanks and the German's were prepared for this the first time Italy surrendered but not the second time, which was caused by a bug. See http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4623859

I don’t mean the surrender bug. The rules just work funny when a country is conquered with an active front line inside of it. Let’s say the Russians take Budapest in 1945, but that is their western most hex in the country. Do you really think the remainder of western Hungary, behind some German units but not in a ZoC, would suddenly be Russian “controlled” ? But that is how the rules work.

Brian, Ok. Yes, I can see how on a micro scale, requiring ZOC-lock to maintain control of hexes behind your lines and within an ally country that just surrendered doesn't make sense. However, on the macro level it seems, to me at least, to work well. It forces a country to rush troops to stabilize the situation behind the lines in if they believe an ally is about to surrender.

Turn 22. Mar/Apr 1943. Allied #1.

The Battle of the Atlantic. Axis Sub and Surface Raider Threats. With everything else that the Western Allies have going on in the Med and Pacific, they also have to worry about the threat to their convoys. Germany still posses a formidable u-boat fleet and just got back from repairs, the heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper.
