ORIGINAL: PvtBenjamin According to naval-history.net , I'm far from an expert on the Illustrious but this is what they say quote:
ORIGINAL: PvtBenjamin The Illustrious was commissioned May 26 '40 in Portsmouth and nominated for service in June. https://www.naval-history.net/xGM-Chrono-04CV-HMS_Illustrious.htm Either way the placement seems appropriate, even you say the ship was in Plymouth in June '40. So whats the big deal with it being placed in Bristol. I have lost many games but never to you unless you play by a different name. You certainly didn't beat me as Allies because until very recently I only play Allies in PBEM and am yet to lose (or win). I'd suggest when something goes wrong in the game first reflect on how to improve your game before demanding un-warranted game changes. Please also refrain from the childish "I beat you" , especially when they aren't correct, it trivializes your argument. The name in SC2 is Meaneye. With me as allies you never even took Riga or Kiev. The Russians were level 2 infantry, level 2 AA before you even invaded, and frankly I had most of the Russian infantry army built. You didnt upgrade most of your units and did very little if any diplomacy. I got Spain in on my side, and Sweden, and Turkey. You had commented that the Volks units werent very good (not your exact words) as the Russians were flooding over the border (I had to pull my corps units back from the line because they were getting in the way of my armies and tanks). And the turn I won, I asked you if you wanted a rematch. And in the rematch I overran Russia, moved all my air to France, bombed the unit in London until it was dead and dropped a para on it to win that game. Remember now? As for the ship being in Plymouth in real life. Its true. It was. BUT, it wasnt there in March 1940. Which is when the Germans invaded France in MY game. You want real life deployments, then the Germans should be required to HAVE to wait until May 10th to attack. Since the Brits IN REAL LIFE moved the ship a month after the Germans invaded because of the danger from France, its only reasonable to speculate that if the Germans had attacked in March instead of May that the Brits wouldnt have sent it there at all, since they sent it in April. Again, its presence at Plymouth was NOT a requirement for the ship to eventually join the fleet, as evidenced by the fact they moved it to Bermuda. Let me say that again, slowly: Its - presence - at - Plymouth - was - NOT - required - for - its - commissioning. That could very well have been done in Scapa Flow or for that matter, Liverpool where it got its new screws, or Bermuda, or New York, or even Singapore. The REAL LIFE British sent it to Plymouth. True. But the Germans were NOT in France when they did it. Now were they? In MY game, the Germans were indeed in France, and the British Admiralty would have to be pretty stupid to send it Plymouth 2 months after the Germans over ran Belgium and entered France, now wouldnt they? Dont have a clue why you insist on beating this horse. The ship doesnt belong there. It belongs in Scapa Flow in August or in Bermuda in July. That would be when their training was complete and their TRAINED air groups assigned. The HMS Illustrious wasnt fully trained and equipped until August 1940 at Scapa Flow, after her return for training operations ("working up")off Bermuda. And until their training was complete in Bermuda in July, they werent in a position to conduct operations with the fleet, and thus shouldnt be in the game.
