With the CS: Vietnam release on the horizon I was thinking about a list of songs I could setup in a playlist to support it. I'll list here the songs I've picked so far in my "CS: Vietnam Playlist".

Man, in listening to these songs it really does transport you back to this time period. One could make a good case that of all the eras of warfare that could be covered with Wargaming, the Vietnam War era had the best music selection of them all.

Here is my playlist of background music for CS: Vietnam so far:
- Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth
- The Doors - This is the End
- Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit
- The Rolling Stones - Give Me Shelter
- Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze
- The Rolling Stones - ( I Can't Get No ) Satisfaction
- The Doors - Break On Through ( To the Other Side )
- Credence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son

I'm 48, so the Vietnam War was a little before my time. After an internet search on the subject I found in countless interviews of Vietnam War veterans that music was something ( along with a lot of prayer ) that helped them pull through. So here are the top 10 most popular songs from the GI's on the ground that were actually there back then. Some are a repeat from my list:

1. The Animals - We Gotta Get Out of this Place
2. Country Joe & The Fish - I Feel Like I'm Fixin to Die Rag
3. Peter, Paul and Mary - Leaving on a Jet Plane
4. Bobby Bare - Detroit City
5. Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze
6. Credence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son
7. Otis Reading - ( Sitt'n On ) The Dock of the Bay
8. The Box Tops - The Letter
9. Aretha Franklin - Chain of Fools
10. Porter Wagoner - Green Green Grass of Home

So you guys have any songs in mind you would want to add to this list?

Also, by creating this wargame covering the Vietman War as well as this one will, in a way, helps to honor all the men who served in Vietnam. Great job guys.

Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Good to hear from you!!!!!

Impressive List my friend!

I would add Jimi Hendrix "All along the Watch Tower" for sure. And another one that needs to be there Credence Clearwater Revival's
"Run through the Jungle" Those 2 songs were made for 'Nam, God; the memories!

I was 14 in '68 and these two tunes rocked! Trust Me!

Take care my friend!
John

Great suggestions guys. I'd forgot about "Run Through the Jungle", I'll add that one. And I like the "watchtower" song, good choice Big I.

I was not familiar with The Animals until I did a quick search on the most popular songs from back then.

"Ride of the Valkaries" is another great choice, and would be perfect for any missions envolving helicopters, Air Cav, or helicopter transport. If there could be a scenario in the game somewhat replicating that beach assault in the movie Apocalypse Now, and we can then play the Valkaries song in the background while we play it.... Now how cool would that be?

If it's not included out of the box I'm thinking someone out there may create it...

These tracks will NOT be included within the game, due to cost of licencing and royalties.

We will be including authentic Vietnamese music in a similar style that we used for Middle East.

Of course, noone is stopping anyone from a user made music mod though.. *coughs*... just saying.

Yes, good point Jason. We listen to these songs, love them and because we hear them on the radio or other media
we tend to take them for granted as just great music. But use them in a commercial product one must consider
royalties and license and with it the costs go up.

But a user made music mod!? Hmmm...neat idea!
