Dastardly AI is trying to get to Noumea and Tahiti.

Ozzies (landed extra battalion worth into Noumea) and Halsey will sort them out. Extra NZ brigade will be sent to Tahiti to sort that out too.

I have suspicion that I am not going to lose Pegu...plus Brit 2nd div and 2 brigades on their way. Overkill is good kill.

My ideal amphibious invasion TF is:

CV TF
CVE TF (covering the transports)
Bombardment TF
Surface combat TF
Amphibious transport TF (main assault force)
Floating reserve TF (similar to above, if initial assault is not successful enough)
Transport TF (supplies)
Transport TF (follow up to bring base forces and engineers after base is captured)

Remember: If it's worth invading, it's worth invading with a lot!

Thanks for the AAR

Question: where do you place the ships in ASW role within all these TFs?

I max all the TFs with DDs, so no need for dedicated ASW TF.

Sometimes one needs minesweeper TF, but they also have integral ASW capability.

Port Moresby is not best with assault values yet, but air support is...adequate...

5th AUS Div got good news that happy times are over and PM is now AUS territory where they should serve. I hope they are bringing mosquito and cannibal repellents.

Historically, CMF units were not required to serve outside AUS.

Lookig at their TOE, with 36 AT guns, they are better suited for defense of Australia proper against a Jap invasion involving tanks.

True, but there are plenty of other units...and they are now available. Not wanting to ship more units from USA to PM.

Another thing is, they draw from CMF squad pool, not from AIF squad pool, latter will be stretched with 4 AIF divisions drawing from it. CMF pool with only 1 div in possible combat should be enough.

I have suspicion that IJ AI is not going to succeed in these 2 places...by the way, I really hate this auto-bombardment, especially when playing 2-day turns...

Ground combat at Port Blair (46,58)

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 2815 troops, 6 guns, 44 vehicles, Assault Value = 138

Defending force 1071 troops, 22 guns, 2 vehicles, Assault Value = 32

Assaulting units:
84th Indian Brigade
RAF 222 Group Base Force

Defending units:
Sasebo 8th SNLF

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ground combat at Pakhoi (72,58)

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 6409 troops, 43 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 243

Defending force 3567 troops, 35 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 123

Assaulting units:
64th Chinese Corps

Defending units:
2nd Sasebo SNLF Coy
81st Naval Guard Unit
Ikaiei SNLF

The Adelaide is so slow I don't like embedding it in a fast combat TF.

I typically operate it in a TF on its own with a couple of destroyers or embed it in a slow BB TF.

Your cruiser TF really peppered Hyuga though, so well done.

Burma...IJ has been thrown back near Pegu..and doubt it'll succeed at Pot Blair vs Indian Brigade and Base Force with mere SNLF..

China:

Not much change. IJA is losing lot of planes against upgraded CAF (they are using now P-66 Vanguards, P-43 Lancers and H81-A3s, latter is leftovers from AVG)
