Hi,

I've posted about this in another thread.
I am trying to attack Messina from the 2 neighbouring hexes and I never get any ground support. I have turned it on via the hotkey, I have lowered the numbers in the air doctrine screen and I have especially assigned certain squadrons to the mission which should be in range (for example the B-26s in Beja Airbase).

Not sure if it's a tech problem, I could be missing something but not sure what.

Thanks for the help, I've attached a save.

I am also attaching the save from the air phase turn before. It's Strategic Air Force and Tactical Airforce who have ground support missions.

von Kotze,

Looking at Save Turn 011 9-11-1943 W file, you have no air groups assigned to Ground Support. See screenshot.

von Kotze,

Some more comments after looking at those two save files:

1. You have a Tactical Air Force air directive supporting 15th BR AG, and Strategic Air Force AD supporting 8th BR Army. That means that the TAF AD will only support non-8th Army attacks within 15th BR AG, presumably 7th US Army.

2. As I mentioned, you have no air units assigned to either of the two Ground Support AD's. Perhaps you're relying on "Auto" to assign, but I always explicitly assign air groups to the AD's I want them to fly. You have some AD's with air groups assigned, and others relying on Auto.

3. If I delete the Strategic AF AD and assign the Tactical AF AD to 8th BR Army and change all the FB-F air groups from fighter to bomber mission, then I do get some air groups to fly ground support. See screen shot.

Hi, thank you for your help.

I had assigned some air units in the air phase. However, I did now assign more Fighter bombers to be bombers, like you did, and this time it worked. Are Tac Bombers and Level Bombers not able to give ground support or is there a lesser chance that they do? If so, that could have been the problem...

My experience is that if you have FB's assigned to Ground Support, then the LB's assigned don't fly, unless you Rest the FB's for a particular combat. So I generally only assign FB's. I have the LB's do Ground Attack-units or Interdict against the target.
