Now when we have Kutno, Eben-Emael and Belgrade scenarios, it is possible to make a tutorial campaign like in Operation Barbarossa.

This is an alpha version without debriefings after losses and the last scenario - I just ran out of inspiration after testing the campaign.

Instead of the first small map you will see a Panzer IVC in the Campaigns menu. In case there are any copyright issues with the picture I will replace it with the small map.

Hi AngrySwan,

memories

If you want this campaign to be in 1.09, we need to be sure the image is in the public domain. There are indeed plenty out there.

Hi Ronald,

This one is from Wiki, article ''Panzer IV'', section ''Ausf.A to F1.''
I do not know how public that is but it can as well be replaced with the first small map.

There were many images of ''evil fritzes'' in Soviet books in the 1970s. Most of them were surrendering or getting killed (Soviets never surrendered and rarely got killed or wounded in these pictures)but many were still fighting.
Most infantrymen carried MP40 with cheater magazines for 8000 rounds (because they never carried extra magazines). Tanks were either T-34 with crosses or ''generic German tanks'' that could go for Pz IIIL or Pz IVF2 and they were used in all years. Planes were slightly better and looked close to the real ones.

Anyway, they are all copyrighted by the publishers

It would be very nice to have the Western European map in the campaigns editor, all three battles are in the West.
Kutno could also be added to 1941-1942 as the first scenario, no core units but it can serve as a ''resource generator'' and the location is on the map.

In the Campaign Editor, Locations are missing (WesternEurope, SovietDawn):

Hi terminator,

indeed those maps are missing in the campaign section. Thanks for reporting, terminator.

@AngrySwan: Those photos on Wikipedia ususally have a section were the legal status is given (click on the image to get to more information). You can only use completely public domain ones, if your work should be included in GaW.

There are many (mostly from the Bundesarchiv) that use CC 3.0 i believe, but then we would have to name the photos somewhere and somehow. So i never bothered with those.

There is a small standalone scenario Dubno-Brody, also from the good old days of Operation Barbarossa. It could be added to the Art of War - after learning to use infantry, tanks, air force, paratroops and artillery it is time for a small but real battle using all your skills together. and getting some idea of how to play the Lwow scenario in AA or 1941.

There is also an alpha version of the Prague map, it does not have victory conditions for the time being but it is a matter of one weekend.

Also, does anyone have an idea which German units went to Prague in 1939? Two are needed. For the time being they are motorized brigades like in the original Operation Barbarossa scenario but, since there will be no Czech resistance, they can be of any size, even battalion.

Then the campaign would look like this:
Prague (moving tutorial, no enemy and no combat)
Kutno (tank and bomber tutorial with a small battle)
Eben-Emael (paratroop tutorial with a small battle)
Belgrade (artillery tutorial with a small battle)
Dubno-Brody (a ''not so small'' battle of combined arms before proceeding to real campaigns)

I would also appreciate some German texts for the Prague scenario, I can get the English texts from Operation Barbarossa but the German texts will be either machine translated or maybe there is a way to install a German patch on top of the English version of Operation Barbarossa (if there is a German patch).
There is also a Konvertor for Operation Barbarossa (that does not seem to work with my version) but as far as I remember there is an Africa scenario in it.

Hi Ronald,

Also, if you have some designer's notes from the old Operation Barbarosssa Prague scenario, or just remember how it was made - what were the victory conditions?

There are two victory locations so there could only be two endings - victory or loss by time. There is no enemy (Wiki mentions a Czech infantry company defending Mistek, but that is off map in this scenario) so there is nothing to destroy or lose. Maybe you also know who entered Prague, for this scenario I would need two infantry units on trucks. I have an OOB for invasion of Austria but unfortunately not for Czechoslovakia.

There was an old Panzer General II campaign starting with invasion of Czechoslovakia (using the Big equipment file by William Dickens, which was a large and advanced equipment file for the time when it was made, and still is) so if I do not find any OOBs anywhere else I could look at that one.

Hi AngrySwan,

the mission was only to occupy the two locations in time. IRRC the 'tricky' part was to chose the right unit for the right location. It was meant as a basic tutorial to get familiar with the movement of units.

Hi Ronald,

Then it must be a one turn scenario in GaW, take both locations on the first turn or or lose by time. An interesting idea.

I can still run Operation Barbarossa on my ''old'' computer (and also on the ''new'' one but the terrain is black) and see how trucks work there.

Until I find better names I will call those units 1st and 2nd regiment.

Art of War is ready for version 1.09.

In this version there is no Prague scenario (I have not figured out the right settings for it) but it has Kutno, Eben-Emael, Belgrade and Dubno-Brody scenarios.

The campaign map has all battle locations. To keep the numbers shorter I only left the first 3 digits. Scenario maps also have the locations marked.

Dubno-Brody has core units and the force is Army Group South so that the player can see how recruitment and disbanding of units work. Only tanks can be recruited, as in the original scenario.
I kept core units in this scenario so that the player would not start buying extra tanks in addition to the existing 12 non-core units. The player can upgrade his tanks before the game starts, like disbanding the Pz II and 38(t) units and recruiting Pz III or IV instead.

The German air units, originally brigade size, have been reduced to regiments. In other scenarios the German Geschwader (air division) is equal to brigade and Gruppe (air regiment) is equal to a regiment and it is also that way in Dubno-Brody scenario. Two regiments of JG 3 ''Udet'' are sufficient for conquering air superiority. Since there is no airfield to resupply the air units, the player will learn to use air force only in the most important engagements and not bomb everything he sees.
