Greetings !

While playing Facing the Bear, CMANO latest build, I ran into a strange issue.
In this scenario you have, among many other things, one sub chasing/trailing a CVBG ~50nm away and another cruise missile sub keeping this CVBG at P-700-range for a strike. I realized early in the game that my trailing sub, the K-299, was detected and attacked. Its depth was exactly 0 ft, so I popped in Editor mode and played with this sub a bit.

It would dive when ordered to (depth setting was "over the layer" so ~131ft since game start) and, randomly, go back to 0 nm instantly. It is *not* surfacing, we're talking about a teleport from -50-something ft to 0 instantly. There are no battery issues (sub is nuke powered) and, as far as I can tell, there is no new threat or detection which would trigger a specific behavior. And if it did, it would dive, not surface. It would also, randomly, reset its direction to 0 degrees. These bugs seem to also affect the cruise missile sub and some enemy subs, as I could detect three Norwegian subs thanks to Eyeball mk.I (!), Surface and Air radars.

This bug might be running from earlier than when I spotted it. If I restart the scenario, it does not seem to appear, but I ran for maybe 5 in-game minutes only.

Here is a savegame.
You should see the K-299 and its buddy K-119 (should you restart the scenario, you'd find it under the name Krasnodar - I renamed it) right on screen. If not, look north of Faroes Islands. The K-299 seems the more bug-prone, run the simulation for a minute or two and you'll see.

I played this scenario twice on older builds and all worked well.

Best regards !

I am so glad to see someone else with this issue.

I personally have been dealing with this issue as far back as 1.10. But figured no one else ever said anything so it must be an issue on my end and just tried avoiding sub missions completely. I have reinstalled the game and updated it and databases many times and the issue always kept re-appearing. I thought it was meddling with scenarios or community scenarios but even official ones this would occur eventually.

I have noticed that initial play through "usually" it does not occur but once you save and come back later the chance of it occurring increases exponentially. I have noticed if it occurs just reload the save and sometimes it stays away. Sometimes the issue will effect subs in another parts of the map. The worst case scenario I encountered was in Facing the bear where even Surface Ships were affected in that case they would reset to 0 degrees and 0 knots and attempt to go back on course and after so many seconds that would repeat much the same with submarines. (I called it glitching or wigging out). Needless to say it was quite infuriating.

I admit I should have posted something years ago, but with someone else experiencing this issue I will now say this defiantly does occur. If needed I will present my own save/scenarios to reinforce this point.(granted I have to replay them again since I walked away for a while). But i just wanted to chime in after seeing that this affected someone else.

I hope this gets resolved eventually.

Thank you to all involved in advance!

I have also encountered this problem. It never happens during the first playthrough of a scenario, only after loading a save. Sometimes verifying Steam cache fixes it; sometimes loading a previous save/an autosave fixes it. I will, like thrawn888, try to show this with saves/images. I'm relieved that I am not the only one.

EDIT: Loading the save, simulation paused:

After resuming time, within 10 seconds, with no controls touched at all:

I juste tried Steam's check for file integrity.
Two files caused some issues and had to be re-downloaded.
Then I ran the game for some time at 30 sec/sec speed... And the problem seems to be solved !

Thanks for this suggestion :)
