I'm hoping the Elo rankings are updated soon, I want to play somebody near my ability, so I might have a chance to actually win something.

I have updated the results but not the rankings. The ELO model is giving unusual results. I'll have to figure out why before I update the ELO rankings.

Hi,

I discover PBEM games, until now I had only played the axis against the AI.
I find that the arrival of the unit generated by event scripts can be a problem.
For example, when the Barbarossa operation was launched, the Russian fleet arrived in front of Leningrad. The problem is that an experienced player knows exactly when and where these units appear, so in positioning German naval units in the right place the Russian fleet is massacred in 1 turn.
I think that the positioning of units should not be predictable for the opposing player, and in general I find that events give too much of an advantage to an experienced player who ends up knowing them very well and can therefore anticipate and manage them.
What does the community think about it?
otherwise I find the game really interesting.

Its a surprise round. Predictable position emulates exactly that; Russian forward positions where unprepared and predictable.
1st turn of Barbarossa is supposed to be devastating for USSR. The German player is..*must*..destroy all spawned air, all mechs, most infantry and if possible all naval spawns. In many games the German player can't afford to have enough naval power in the Baltic to destroy the 3 Russian ships. Especially for ground units, most of the times I've seen USSR spawned air and armies escape the Allies win.

For me its just fine and as it ought to be

Ktonos,

I understand and agree completely on the historical point.
I was talking more in terms of game predictability and variability.

Tourney match ended: Fafnir(Axis) vs Rannug(Allies). Axis victory March 1943.

Fafnir made a strong effort to attack America, the US had to use all resources to slow him down. It turned out to be a very different type of game.
The game ended when Moscow finally was captured after some bitter winter fighting. It would had been fun to see if the US would have survived.
I did a very poor job defending the UK and that created the possibility for Fafnirs go for America

Wow! First time I have heard of an attack on the USA.

Fafnir, how much did you invest in Ampib and how many chits did you have when you launched your attack?

Rannug61, What did you consider a poor job? Did you lose a lot defending or did he take it quickly?
In my case, I lost a lot defending including much of the Brit Navy. Consequently, I have unable to defend Egypt. Once he got to Persia I was toast.

PS. Rannug61/Fafnir, Would either of you like to try a 4-person game of WaW? We need one more player.

Fafnir did his "slow" attack on Poland and got an early start on France. Paris was taken in June and I hadn't well prepared for Seelöve. I lost loads of unit in UK(when the last capital was lost I had good units in the production line). I wouldn't say UK went down very quickly but it wasn't slow. In Russia things went a little better since he did the America project. Moscow held out quit long due to stubborn resistance and bad weather. The fight over America was very fun and he had taken ports in Greenland and landed in Nova Scotia(Sydney mines) and Newfoundland He also had taken Charlottetown. He lost a good number of ships(most fun was when I sunk his carrier with the remains of the UK navy) but I lost a lot more. Most painful was when he DOWed the US(just before they were about to enter the war) and sunk most of the US navy right away. It would have taken a long time for him to take Washington but not impossible but when the VC conditions are meet the game ends.
A really fun game despite that I was more or less doomed early on.

I don't know how to play 4way WaW....? I have version 1,02. Never really got into it only played the AI a couple of times. It takes forever to finish a game of WaW! But sure if you teach me how to set it up I'll give a try.

Fafnir (Axis) wins vs. Taxman (Allied)
Resigned January 1941.

Axis went All France and Algiers fell near the end of 1940 (already posted events prior in the France 1939 via Maginot AAR thread).
January 1941 turn and I'm shocked by Iraq coup happening.
Then it dawned on me that he must've put a unit in Syria.
Went to check it out with a CV, and discovered enough units in there to take out Egypt, while I had pressed forward to Gazala to force Rommel to show up around Tripoli (Tobruk was bypassed).
I had killed an Italian Medium Bomber and Fighter and 2 GAR, and done 4 damage to a IT HQ and thought I had a fighting chance to significantly delay the Axis push on the Middle East.
Only to have far too many units on the verge of being cut off with no ports to evacuate from; and the bonus of not being prepared to get 2 units next to Baghdad.

Never having seen/experienced All France before was taken by surprise by this maneuver. Given the huge commitment in Algeria, I was sure The Rock was the next target.
Morale of the story: If Axis is going 'All France' MAKE SURE THAT SYRIA PORT/CAPITAL IS GARISONED BY UK UNITS!

I would have been very hard pressed and put my chances of winning at 10-15% (at most) even before this maneuver.
Well played, I'm not in Fafnir's league.

First time I see a successful all France too. Either in my games or in others. It must be a first.
I think Fafnir has proven he can win using several different approaches.

On another note. May I propose to change the tourney structure from the coming Fall? We could continue tracking ELO ratings, but this structure has several cons.

an interesting and very pleasant game to play like the games with Fafnir and Rannugh61.
these three remind me of the luftwaffe "experten" who had 200 or 300 victories to their credit
interesting, we learn a lot, the difficulty is to survive long enough to learn.
