Western Allies. ETO (8/10). O.K. Here's the Genoa combat, which is technically part of the MTO and not ETO.

ahh now the forgotten forces in Italy paid the price for the Americans not having the British radio frequency, or whatever it was. send in a single Major Power and the Allies lose one less unit. every pip on the dice counts in the long run.

I never play with the Railway Movement optional and can never remember that it can allow tanks do a breakthrough move from a woods hex, as the Russians just did. von Bock should just rail out of there before the swarm surrounds him, too - and German Engineers are far more valuable making mini Stalingrads in a factory hex than they are as just an extra infantry division on any other front line. If the SS Engineer had been parked in Paris it might have held up Monty and Ike considerably. Same at Warsaw. But ultimately it is every desperate Fueher's #1 choice to babysit the Bunker, even better than parking Dora and Gustav in there.

I would have tried to cross the Seine via a single hex, mass armor / whatever is left in the kitchen sink (that NAV, a Cruiser?) attack on the 2 units flipped at the mouth of the river, even before I knew the Allies still had lift remaining for their PARAs. With the PARAs I think it would have been about a +15 - 4 or higher and the Allies are across.

I am confused about the attack on the Rumanian CAV in the mountains. The CAV has a printed strength of 2, and was not flipped, and was in mountains, so it should have been doubled to a strength of 4. However, your combat display showed a strength of 3. I can not figure out how to get a strength of three for that unit.

I am confused as well. What post are you referring to? I looked at what I thought was the cavalry attack you referred to, but it looked to me like the defender was counted as 4 in strength.

So, will the collaborationist government in Vichy fall because Paris is liberated, or because the Allied armies take Vichy? Which will come first? Stay tuned to find out.

Post 2798. It's a typo on my part. The (35:3) should have read (35:4). Keyboard entry error.

Thanks, nice catch by the way.

It's going to be close, but if this turn runs long then my bet is that Paris will be liberate first.

I'm impressed by the eye to detail that all of you display when reading what I or others post.

P.S. But I'd dare say that the type of person, in general, who plays (M)WiF has an eye to detail. Otherwise they'd be playing Risk.

Turn 30. July/August 1944. Axis #8.

End of Turn Check. Turn continues on a roll of 8 (2 or less required to have ended it).

USSR Production, Resources and Block Rail lines. No one's more relieved than the Soviets that this turn continues. 8 of 26 undamaged Soviet factories are starved of resources. The Soviets have an abundant of oil and non-oil resources cutoff from these idle factories because of two cut rail lines. Continuation of this turn will allow the Soviets to "fix" these two rail lines and get those 8 idle factories producing. If the turn had ended on either of the two previous checks (18% that it would have), then Soviet production would have fell short this turn because of the two broken rail lines.

It's the little things that matter ... "For want of a nail, a horse was lost. For want of a horse, a rider was lost. For want of a rider, a cavalry unit was lost. For want of a cavalry unit, a battle was lost. For want of a battle, a war was lost."

The Rumanian in Odessa's ZoC is also stopping the rail lines. Not only for resources, but, more importantly, for supply. Even if you don't attack it (it will go away during the conquest phase), you want a unit in the hex to the west, as well as the one you have in the hex to the northwest.

P.S. I prefer this version.

For Want of a Nail

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

Yes, you're ahead of me on that. I did discover that this past impulse. Stay tuned on how the Red Army successfully, or maybe unsuccessfully, dealt with that.

By the way, nice catch. Again, the attention to detail from this community is amazing!

I think yours is the correct one. Mine was paraphrased even though I used quotes.
