So I understand that the AI can't account for everything etc. but even this boggles the mind.

So here's the picture in Europe. Nov 43, Germans are in full retreat from Russia, mostly speed bumps for the Ruskies at this point. France has just bee liberated, and there are in excess of 10 allied units in France.

Italy has no units on the Vichy border, I mean not even a garrison anywhere nearby. The nearest Italian units are a carrier Venice and a fighter unit near Bologna. So what does the mighty AI do..

DoW Vichy!!! then doesn't move anything in so on the allied turn the Vichy unit screams across the border and captures Turin.

Am I missing something?

Hi Celebrindal,

There is an event that would have Vichy France rejoin France once France is liberated. My guess is that this is what likely fired and not because of an Axis DoW, at least not from what I can tell from your description (the timing) and from doing a quick review of the scripts.

Can you be positive that this was not what happened? For example if you check the borders and which Allied unit arrived in Vichy.

If it did, then this is not related to the AI as this typically happens in every game type (AI, Multiplayer) etc. If not could you send me a saved turn to support@furysoftware.com. Feel free to use WeTransfer to send the file, https://wetransfer.com

Hubert

Forgot to add, if it was a DoW, and if you can remember, was it an Italian DoW or a German DoW?

Hi Sapper32,

After looking at this again I don't believe it was the case of Vichy France rejoining France as this looks to only happen once most of the territory of Vichy France has been captured by the Allies and thus Vichy France would have already been in the war.

I re-examined the AI scripts this morning and I do see the possibility of a rare Italian DoW on Vichy France, should Vichy still be not be in the war and I'll look to correct this.

Hubert

It was an Italian DoW. If it had just been Vichy rejoining etc wouldn't have been surprised. It was more Italy declares war part that caught me off guard. I'l see if i reload the previous turns it does it again.

Yup I can get it to trigger on the AI turn. Italy DoW's Vichy. If you want the save file just let me know. As a side point and a much longer conversation the German AI was doing some really goofy stuff the previous couple of turns as well. Like leaving the entire southern front empty while being double or triple stacked in the North until it got gobbled up.

My last game I had the allies DoW on Vichy. This one no. There seems to be some shenanigans in DoW. This game I had Turkey DoW on me out of nowhere. Worked out though Went through Turkey, Iraq, Iran and now in India. Meanwhile Palestine, TransJordan and Sudan for N. Africa group.

Yes, if you still have the save handy please send it to me at support@furysoftware.com You can use WeTransfer to send this file as well as that is typically easier for larger files.

Thanks,

For variety there might be games that will have the Allies DoW Vichy, or not, and this is because some of these events are either random, or conditional and it can just depend on how the war unfolds.

For Turkey, there is a small percentage chance that they may join the Allies and only for Allied AI games.

For both of these examples, these are likely events that are behaving as they should and not unexpectedly.

Sure get that certain things to trigger the events. But that being said, who would DoW when you have nothing on the border or even close so that as a result of the DoW you are losing cities, NM, MPP right away?

Of course and if you are referring to the Italian DoW this is an error and not purposeful. In this case it looks like an OFFENSIVE plan for the Italians to attack towards Marseilles in 1940 was the culprit, i.e. once Italy enters the war in 1940, and I just added a check to ensure that this particular event will only fire if the USSR has not entered the war which will prevent it from firing again the way it did in your game.

Looks to have been a rare occurrence as well as this is the first report and it was also dependant on the Italians having enough units nearby to start the attack... the range was generous for this event.

For Turkey joining the Allies, this is a join not a DoW, and for the US declaring war on Vichy, for me this is also Ok as it requires France to have been liberated, the US in the war, and for there to be at least 15 Allied units within 3 hex range of Paris... so generally speaking I'm not concerned about these two.

Hope this helps
Hubert
