There is no news and hasn't been any. Just wait like the rest of us.

As of now, DW2 is all bluster and vaporware. If this forum had ads on it, then it would be a big money maker for Matrix. Good thing Stellaris is a great game.

Well thanks for your informed comment. Very knowledgeable person you must be.
Be sure to share more information with this forum when you can......and yes, Stellaris is a good game.

Anyone see this announcement yet?

http://slitherine.com/news/2880/Conquer.the.galaxy!.Astra.Exodus.has.been.announced

Looks similar to DW in a lot of ways. Is this the sequel, only under a different name?

Hmmm.... that does look quite similar to DW. Would Matrix/Slitherine compete against themselves with that game and DW2?

Different developer, totally different Art style, more Focus on Story driven SP - different game, also most likely means DW2 wont come this year.

Developers sometime change names, and the art style isn't "totally different" at all. There's actually a good deal of similarity between the two.

That being said, yes, I do agree it's not Distant Worlds 2. Astra Exodus is turn-based (I hadn't noticed that until now), and I don't see the DW series deviating from the real-time 4x formula.

I've taken that as a given for some time now. A 2020 release date (or later) has been obvious since Matrix/Slitherine began looking for 3D artists to add to the DW2 project.

Age of Wonder: Planetfall.., now that will be the game to get if you want some Sci Fi stuff. Not DW caliber, but it could be a thing.

Astra Exodus doesn't seem up to where Distant Worlds was. Looking forward to new information about DW2 asap.

I'm liking the top down combat. I'm always a fan of top down space games.

Yes, it wouldn't be the first time they have come out with products that possibly compete with each other. For example, Grigsby's War Between the States and Forge of Freedom came out fairly close to each other.

Looks like a sequel to 'Stars in Shadow' to me.

You should try DWU while you wait for DW2.
DWU is so much better than Stellaris.

Any update ? anything...
Atleast a message saying they are working on it.
The Silence is a bit troubling, hoping they did not end up in any trouble.

Well, they've already said a number of times that they're working on it, and they were certainly hiring people to work on it.

Is there any indication whatsoever of when we might hear some formal news, even a little development diary update would go a long way?

If there were Early Access or Crowd Funding options, I'd be in day one, without question.

It has been over four years since Matrix announced that DW2 was in the works. We have not been shown a scintilla of progress since then.

This is a voluntary watch. I'm standing down.
