You probably have realized by now that "The Waffen SS will form a seperate faction within the German armed forces" and it does have some benefits. Also, Waffen SS leads to other Waffen specialisations. Here is the progression (taken from the text files that provide specialisation descriptions): spec_waffen_ss_title = Waffen SS spec_waffen_ss_descr = After serving under the OKW, the Waffen-SS will form its own command structure. To further expand this fanatic fighting force, volunteers are now recruited from conquered territories. spec_waffen_ss_effect = • +100 RP and 6 Ground CP for the Waffen SS faction|• 2 RP per turn are transferred from Germany to the Waffen SS faction spec_waffen_ss_ii_title = Waffen SS II spec_waffen_ss_ii_descr = By further expanding the nationalities and populations viable for recruitment into the Waffen SS, several more divisions can be fielded on the battlefield. spec_waffen_ss_ii_effect = • +6 Ground CP for the Waffen SS faction|• +3 RP per turn are transferred from Germany to the Waffen SS faction spec_waffen_ss_iii_title = Waffen SS III spec_waffen_ss_iii_descr = Another expansion program, accepting volunteers from all territories conquered by the German army or affiliated to its cause, will increase the Waffen SS to a powerful and independent fighting force. spec_waffen_ss_iii_effect = • +6 Ground CP for the Waffen SS faction|• +5 RP per turn are transferred from Germany to the Waffen SS faction That's what the files say, at least. I have not played the Waffen SS faction myself in order to comment any further on it. EDIT: Actually, I can say a few more things. Only Waffen SS appears in Blitzkrieg and it has to be earned. In Panzerkrieg, the player starts with Waffen SS already awarded but he has to earn Waffen SS II. Similarly, in Endsieg, the player already has Waffen SS I and II and must earn Waffen SS III.
