Hi,
I'm new to Command and have been going through the Tutorials, which are fantastic BTW. I've been scoring very well, but there's one thing that is driving me crazy, and it's probably just one of those things where I'm not following the correct sequence or procedure. When I want to change the speed of my sub I go into F2 and I'll put in a speed. Sometimes the sub will then adopt the new speed, and sometimes it won't. I've tried all sorts of combinations - setting to manual and putting in the desired speed, or bulleting the pre-sets like Cruise or Flank etc. However, there seems to be a glitch because some of the times it will respond, and other times it won't. It is obviously a critical problem - for example, when I'm hunting down a contact, and at the moment when I lose the contact, where I want to sprint towards the last known position, I'm losing 5 or 6 minutes trying to coax and nurse the sub to the desired speed. Is there a specific sequence that I must follow in order for the sub to obey my command to change speed?

Check if it is assigned to a mission and also look inthe Doctrine settings, often those things can cause the Sub AI to countermand your orders

Have you checked "avoid cavitation"?

If so, you may be too shallow to go at high speed.

I think if you have a course set and a waypoint is actively selected, the speed orders will apply to the waypoint and not to the sub's current status.

Anyone feel free to correct me on this.

Thanks everyone. I will check into each one of these excellent suggestions and see if they shed some light on the subject. Will get back if I find out anything

You are correct. I've made this mistake any number of times while first setting a waypoint course, then setting speed without reselecting the sub icon. So the new speed only applies after that still selected waypoint.

I make the waypoint mistake all the time. Got to be very vigilant of the title bar of the speed window - it will say whether you have the unit or waypoint selected. If you pass a waypoint that has a speed set, the speed will change.

@OP - Another thing to keep in mind is if you're using Sprint/Drift, you're setting the AVG speed. The sub may travel faster / slower.

It sounds like the waypoint problem is pretty common, I have run into it many times myself. It might be a good change if they added some sort of colored indicator (to draw extra attention) to the speed/altitude window to help users identify that they have a waypoint selected instead of the actual unit, and perhaps a button there to return to the unit without having to close the window, and reselect the unit.

I like this idea. It's an easy mistake to make, even with lots of experience.

I've only done this a couple hundred times! I like that idea.
