Jan 6 China The IJA attack at Loyang reduced forts from 3 to 2 and casualties were approximately equal. But, the IJA position was reinforced, and the Chinese was not, so with about a 2:1 advantage in AV we attack again - quote:
Ground combat at Loyang (87,43) Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 29495 troops, 260 guns, 323 vehicles, Assault Value = 1638 Defending force 26519 troops, 178 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 692 Japanese adjusted assault: 595 Allied adjusted defense: 526 Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 3) Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 2 Combat modifiers Defender: forts(+), preparation(-), morale(-), experience(-) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 1423 casualties reported Squads: 5 destroyed, 140 disabled Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 9 disabled Engineers: 1 destroyed, 6 disabled Allied ground losses: 1378 casualties reported Squads: 42 destroyed, 109 disabled Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 23 disabled Engineers: 2 destroyed, 6 disabled Guns lost 24 (7 destroyed, 17 disabled) Assaulting units: 32nd Division 13th Ind.Mixed Brigade 16th Ind.Mixed Brigade 11th Tank Regiment 41st Division 13th Division 3rd Tank Regiment 1st NCPC Infantry Brigade 12th Army 2nd Hvy.Artillery Regiment Defending units: 2nd Chinese Cavalry Corps 40th Chinese Corps 80th Chinese Corps 93rd Chinese Corps 98th Chinese Corps 39th Group Army 14th Group Army 1st War Area 8th New Chinese Corps The Chinese attacked at Pakhoi again - quote:

A bombardment attack at Bataan disclosed a 5 to 4 IJA advantage in AV, so the siege will last a considerable time. No reinforcements are available unless the assault on Java is postponed. SOPAC The deliberate attack at Rabaul reduced forts to 1, so the demoralized and fatigued defenders will succumb soon. Borneo Sambas was reinforced with a battalion from Kuching. BB Nagato TF will bombard tomorrow before a deliberate attack, so I expect a good result. On the other side of the island, Samarinda was easily captured; one unit retreated to Balikpapan, the other surrendered. Samarinda oil sustained 19 damage (of 100). After a day of fort building, 38 Div will cross the river to capture Balikpapan. Artillery and tanks are available to assist. Sumatra One of the Dutch straggler battalions from Medan entered Tandjoengbalai as it was being attacked by IG Div(-). They surrendered. Malaya 25 Army (5 Div, 18 Div, 56 Div(-), plus tanks and artillery [1936 AV]) begins the move into Singapore. Other 16 Inf Rgt and artillery will land at Manado tomorrow combined with an airdrop from Cagayan on Sidate.
