I'm coming back to WITP AE after a two year hiatus. Formerly I only played by email but this time I'm playing allied against the computer. (Due to health reasons I don't want to start a game against a player I might disappoint)
The question is this:
Scenario Hakku Ichu non historical start. It's December 15th and KB has disappeared from the Central Pacific. I still hold Wake. Confident that KB is not around I sent a small amphib TF to reinforce Wake and I have Lex and the Big E trailing it by 2 hexes in case of any surface opposition.
Just north of French Frigate Shoals, my carriers located and attacked an enemy oiler TF. Here is the question: Is this the replenishment TF that supported KB that the AI 'forgot' to return to Japan? Is it there waiting for KB to return?

I'm OK with not knowing but if this is a glitch I need to back up one turn, load as Japanese player and send the TF back before I cream it. If it's not a glitch I can continue playing regardless. Does anyone know?

In combat if you assume anything you want to assume the worst case possible.

Almost all the glitches are gone from this game. The AI does not forget stuff.
As a rule of thumb the AI does not need to refuel anything it just cheats.

The KB refuel group should be out of the area by 15 days in but that could be it.

An important question is how big was the oiler group you attacked?

An oiler group there to refuel the KB or an invasion force should be a large group 8 or 9 oilers at least.

Welcome to the Pacific War.

I don't know about the AI never using oilers, but I have to think the scripts would have moved the oilers back toward Japan much more than that unless Midway is on the target list - it is the only location near FFS that makes sense. I.E., I am assuming that even if the KB doesn't actually use them the AI/Scripts would call for the oiler TF to be nearby to approximate an oiling situation.

I would still go for the oilers at max range 5 (Devastators loaded with bombs - torps are unreliable). Just position your carriers SE of the oilers so if KB is near Midway it will be out of strike range. Don't forget to mount a max range Naval Search using about 20% of your SBDs. Keep at least 50% of your fighters on CAP of your carriers. The strike on the oilers will not likely need escorts much.

Last night as was watching the Braves/Marlins baseball game and I found that I was losing concentration.
I could not focus on the game because something was going around in my head and bothering me.
Was it Admirals Edition?

I guess I have read thousands of posts and threads on this forum over the years.
This morning I took another look at this.

This post was back to 2011, 8 years ago!

I’m a sick man. There is stuff I need to remember but cannot.
There is stuff I should have forgot, but it seems I cannot.

That TF is there normally, I know this as a JFB. My guess is its due to the non-historical start. Somehow the AI loses it when you do that.

Well of course, but I didn't think that needed to be said.
