I've known about this book for years. I just got around to reading it.

It's pretty much a Must Read for this crowd. The first half is a short version of how the Marines got ready and all the very serious problems he had. Like Admiral Sims who pretty much created modern Fire Control systems, telling everybody that Amphibious Assaults should be done by Bluejackets not Marines. Lots of others didn't help much ether.

This is the Marine Pub. There are, of course lots of printed versions.

Another bit of interest. Just after Pearl Harbor the US could not be defended - ammo was in VERY short supply.

He was also NOT real happy with the Army, Navy, etc and how he had to scream for the correct equipment etc.

Highly recommend a viewing of the movie 1941 for a hilarious portrayal of the west coast immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
