On 1st September we will mark the 80th anniversary of the start of World War 2. Can we expect many good discounts on WW2 games?

Why celebrate the starting of a war?

Then why ask about discounts if not to celebrate the anniversary?

Ask Poland. They sounded sirens to commemorate it. It is something that people need to be reminded of.

The nurse who attends to my father is Polish. Today he asked for a free day to go to Church with his family and “remember” what happened to his country 80 years ago. Note how the key word is “remember”, not “celebrate”. Also, he is 60 - so he wasn’t even alive during the war. But for him and his family today was still a day of remembrance.

My stepmother's family is from Poland. Some of her relatives hid in the woods when the Russians were coming. They stayed there a long time.

In China, this wasn't the beginning of WW2.

But as a Canadian, it is relevant to me. 80 years ago, our people said no to Nazis.

I'm sadly still saying no to Nazis. The only good Nazi, even a modern one, is a dead Nazi. They can forget their freedom of speech.

I respectfully disagree about taking away their freedom of speech. If it is taken from one person or group, who is next? Better that we hear them speak so we can know who out enemies are, for when we don't know this, then we are in trouble. We can also let other people know how wrong they are and why they are wrong.

It's only slightly more than two months until the Thanksgiving/Christmas sales. Can you wait that long?

I will accept your request to disagree.

But the neo nazi scum should be shot on sight. Millions died from the originals. They've essentially mocked our dead. I'm not giving them freedom to speak. I'm not giving them freedom to live. This isn't about allowing someone who has a different take on a specific hot topic item their right to voice it. This isn't about gun control laws, or abortion laws. Nope, given a choice, if I could snap my fingers and every neo nazi white supremacist were to drop dead. They'd be dead in the next 5 seconds.

Millions died because of their beliefs. Their beliefs are not welcome.

On this I agree, but it is better to educate them than to murder them. By educating them we also educate others and show the proper way to disagree. As long as no laws are broken, people are allowed to think what they want to think unless you want thought police. I do not want thought police.

"then you are no better than they are"

Actually, no, that line of thinking is just flawed entirely.
I'm not advocating hate. I'm not advocating the destruction of an entire people.
I'm advocating they suffer the same response as was given to all the other ones.

They sowed the wind.....

I'm not telling anyone how to think.
I'm making clear my response to unacceptable actions.
But I'm Canadian, and we have different laws.
My freedom to not need to suffer from hate, matters more than my freedom to subject hate on another.

Absolutely no place for this wanton anger on this site. The OP is recognizing the beginning of the Second World War. Nothing more. Take your 'shoot 'em all' politics somewhere else please.

There once was a wise saying that went: I may not agree(like) with what you are saying, but I'll defend, with my life, your right to say it.
It's a shame that has gone by the wayside.

It's funny how the toilet expands to allow the head to go through.

It's sad when the thought police show up. Pretty much what happened when Hitler came to power. Over 75 million paid for it with their lives. That's something to remember. Next time it could well be 7 billion +.

You are basically calling Socialists Trade Unionists and Jews no better than Nazis.

Use of a supposedly clever quote doesn't always work in every circumstance.
The quote is not always relevant. The context is not always appropriate.

Sometimes the words, are no better than deliberate falsehoods.

Canada went to war in 39 to forcibly remove the Nazis and their cleverly worded falsehoods.

Chickenboy, my anger is directed only at Nazis.
I'm recognizing the start of a heroic moment in time to stand up and say no to a force some would call evil. I'm not religious, I don't recognize the notion of evil. But I once wore the uniform of my country. Because I won't tolerate what some will casually permit.

Von Rocko, that notion might be yours, it isn't one I'd share though.
It's a shame the US 2nd amendment has become a farce. It was meant to permit the citizens of your nation the capacity to remove a government that is clearly NOT of and by and for the people. Currently, I don't see it as being for anyone other than the massively rich. But that is just my opinion and one that I don't need to defend, as I'm not an American.

I'm Canadian, and I have a different document. It's called the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
We also observe the Human Rights Code.
And we don't tolerate hate mongers.
By that I mean, hate is legally permitted to be shut down in a courtroom.
In other words, speaking hate can get you arrested in Canada.
In other words, the Nazis are not welcome in Canada.

If you want them, wish to defend them, then you can keep them too.
We are not required to defend them here.

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I did not speak out;
As I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I did not speak out;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
As I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I did not speak out;
As I was not a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

But the neo nazi scum should be shot on sight.

And we don't tolerate hate mongers.

And yet here they are.

Hate is hate. You are spiraling down to where it becomes ok to hate a narrowly defined portion of the population and it's okay to kill them. Hmmm...what does that sound like?

All the poor OP wanted was a deal on some games.

Not interested in your rationalizations for your violence-mongering hate speech. I'll not read any more of your screed on the matter.

I don't question people's right to hate Nazis. I do question the way many apply the label, though.
