!!!!ATTENTION!!!!

I recently discovered a document handwritten prior to 1984 in a heretofore unknown language that, once I realized it was actually a cipher and cracked it, CLEARLY and WITHOUT QUESTION revealed SLURS written by [InsertNameHere] himself/herself, in his/her own hand, AGAINST my person!

I DEMAND these charges be met!
The way people used too..

Winner= innocent
Loser= guilty
Running away= guilty

!THE BATTLEFIELD!

CRETE-Operation Merkur,
May, 1941

map: 2.5km/hex
Time scale: 6hr turns
Scale: Company/Squad/squadrons/individual ships
Leangh: 48 turns

SIDE A
Having been driven insane by Fascism, The Germans seem determined to enslave or exterminate anyone that isn't enough like them. Highly proficient, well equipped and with nothing but victories behind them they are about to launch the first airborne invasion in history.
Bombast or a good idea?

SIDE B
The recently defeated remnants of a dying colonial empire. A mixed bag of Australians, Britons, Irish, Greeks and New Zealanders, desperately trying to hold there ground after a string of losses that span a continent.
It appears they have little chance.
Although...
The map has excellent defensive ground..
and the Mediterranean fleet is available in Alexandria...

I await your reply...

It was so old it disintegrated as soon as I touched it.
and it doesn't really make sense unless you decipher from memory anyway.
There is only ONE way to settle this.
Choose your side...

It's a good mix of naval and land. I looked at it out to turn 7 or so. Take your time. The first turn is a set up phase so don't worry about going over the commonwealth side. I went over the German. I think it should play well.

To be honest I really don't have time for another scenario. I'm playing two games of FitE2, working on a Barbarossa scenario and doing testing on whatever gets changed on the dev end of this game. So that and my real life stuff takes up all the free time I have. Sometimes I try and take up more than I have time for but then everything else suffers so not this time. Sorry.

Starting over...

I now have a defense of Crete worked out and no-one to test it on.
If you want to take Crete from me, then insert name in above Casus Belli and let's find out.
I will try my best to squash your invasion and hold the line on Fascism.
Please, don't accept this challenge without taking the time to do the reading and learn the scenario.
That involves, IMO, playing the scenario head to head out a few turns so you can learn how it works. The complexity is in the details. Understand your supply situation. Understand the strengths and weaknesses of each side.
THEN form an attack plan and launch it.
If you try and land counters directly on top of my airfields I will almost certainly destroy them or it will be disastrously costly. In other words, if you follow the German plan, which was as close to disaster as it gets, it probably won't work. And its also very un-imaginative.

Any takers?
Its a well built scenario and it should play out well even though it was made for TOAW3. The naval enhancements in TOAW4 make it work better than in TOAW3 I think.

Anyways, this is now an open challenge to anyone who want's to try an island invasion.. :)

I need to take a break from Tobruk testing. Crete sounds like a nice place to visit.

Brits move first I think?

I don't see how ... I know at the last move you were pressing very hard against those ports.

Would be interested in your AAR? For me, first time this scene playing CW, the sea battles were hexing. As you know, there were issues w/ CW battleships firing still, even underwater.

I did find an interesting map of CW sea efforts (historically) ... that did not happen in our go at this, for me I found that I could not ferry as much as I would have liked, so I tried to focus on the land battles ... and, the house rules in the scenario briefing were a bit confusing to me, at least as far as the evacuations by sea and how to handle sea battles / encounters.

Overall, I would say that this is a scenario for the more very experienced player (I am a just a novice)...

also, that the map might be truncated [? not sure if that is the right word], b/c the very long naval moves that are required of the Brits to succeed might (I think) be better modeled if the map were truncated.

The naval aspect of the scene was frustrating for me as CW. Not sure if the scene would benefit from the tweaks in TOAW IV to naval. Something I think might be looked at.

Anyway, this is definitely a scene I would play more if the naval aspect was tweaked.

I was thinking it was a total German victory ...
