This game is great - actually have never played ANY of the Close Combat Series have heard about them and checked it out on youtube. I did the full monty and got the boxed edition of this one - Bought it cause it came out in 3D. For example, Steel Panthers is still. ...... top down so when this went 3D I figure I would get it - I can't get past top down stuff. Anyway, this is what is great about Matrix Games and Slitherine games. Ya can buy the game and ya don't have to be connected to the internet and fool with steam.

Anyway I think many do not realize how unique this game is: There are may options that can be set winning options and difficulty options this is key and surprisingly many games do not have many options. But them even these guys with this game they play with your sanity by not having things such as a way to speed up the battle, save during the campaign except ONLY BEFORE a battle is done at setup one can save I assume I could replay the battle and the campaign would continue who knows (one can save prior to starting the battle ) You also cannot change the difficulty and time limits after the campaign starts these are locked in. Evidently to fix all of these things would be impossible. But again what is great are all the other things for example they offer a Steam key which I activated so I could leave a review but then Steam my constant nightmare strikes again after typing up a long positive review even though I had a steam key they require I play it for at least 5 min well this necessitates a downloading of the game via steam which I was not in the mood to do so that was a waste of time but I saved the review to a doc file if I decided to download it. Anyway, what is also great is during the campaign you can choose during an operation what type of battle to play for example you can keep the pressure on and get right back into it or you can choose a more prepared battle it is great having all the options but the fixes mentioned earlier would be nice at some point.

It was released in 1996. I was one of the first to get it.
