Use paratroopers to surprise him. Air transport some engineers to build, use subs to lay defensive minefields. Do this where he ain't powerful.

26 April 1943

My carriers are all back at Pearl. Most of the VB squadrons have upped to 36. An exception was Wasp, which I couldn't seem to flip. I flipped the others by converting to SBD-4s or -3s. Looking closer, Wasp was near her airplane limit anyway, so that's probably why she's not increasing. If I landed her VT squadron, she might do it then, but I'll keep them on board. All the VFs are within 5 planes of their full complements of F6Fs. I'm leaving Wasp with Wildcats, as the pool isn't big enough to flip them yet.

Once everyone's up, I'll send them to patrol awhile near Kwajalein, to catch any more surprises. With Hellcats aboard, I may be able to stop a KB strike. My fighter pilots are averaging in the mid 70s for skill right now.

I've beat up a couple subs between Pearl and the US, which have been laying there. ASW seems to improve over time. I also smacked a couple IJN PBs with my subs last turn. I'd rather they hit the cargo/fuel ships. The Japanese PBs seem to be crap ASW platforms. None have ever landed a hit on me yet.

Japanese PB have low crew experience and lousy captains.

You might want to keep the Wasp as F4F for CAP purposes so you don't run too low on Hellcats. Use the bomber air groups for searching and ASW so they won't go out unescorted.

Yeah, I never purge the pool with an upgrade.

Usually I set the VS squadron to 50% search, but as they're gone, I'll put every VB squadron at 20% search.

I've gotten fairly competent with carrier ops over the years.

Can't wait until 1945, where any carrier group will simply shrug off any KB sized strike.

My 4 USN carriers have departed Pearl, headed for the Kwajalein area. Maybe I can catch one of his sneak raids he's been doing.

Most of my ASs and ARs there have been replaced with new ones, so the bases are running again.

Pearl's supply is now over 500k and all the exclamation points are gone. I still need to keep it coming fast.

If, by some chance I catch his carriers out west. I'll kick off the Marianas early. 3 of the 4 CVs have Hellcats

Fairly quiet.

An IJN TF is moving SE from Truk. My carriers are at Kwajalein. They're moving to intercept. We'll see...

Use long range Nells for night torpedo attack . . .

Now if the Allies can just capture some Nells with torpedoes already mounted, Mundy may be able to follow your advice.

10 May 1943

The enemy TF vanished, so nothing to hunt. My carriers are just east of Kwaj, refueling. An IJN sub is sitting right next to them, so I'll move them north a bit. He tends to spot me the moment I go west of Kwajalein. Figures, now that I have ships there, he won't make any moves. Tempted to strike Truk, but I don't want to give my numbers away. I noticed on one of my carriers, I forgot to convert from TBDs. Oops...

In the States, my first P-47 unit arrives, fully stocked. They're rushing to Pearl and will likely move forward when I take the Marianas. Doesn't look like I can use external tanks on them yet, but maybe they don't show in Eastern US.

Looking at my recon, he has about 200 fighters split between Milne and Rabaul. Another 25 at Truk. Tempted to bomb Truk with B-24s but he has no shipping there. He's not stocking lots of ships there like historically.

Unless I get some lucky battle with his carriers, by Marianas invasion won't happen for another three months yet. (game-wise and real life) Once I take them and have those bases established, I'm going to immediately land at Luzon, with Mauban as my landing point. Even with all the troops tasked for the Marianas, I have lots of units already prepping for the Philippines. Plenty for the job. Fighter coverage is probably light moving that ways, with as much as he has invested in the SW Pacific theatre. He never did take Lae...

Drop tank availability depends on enough supply and the date that the D/T comes on-line. EC USA should have had enough supply so likely the D/T are not available until later. I think the Aircraft Information part of the unit screen might have the date that the D/Ts become available.

I vaguely recall other players saying the first P-47s arrive with substandard leaders and pilots. I hope you can review that before shipping them out. Also remember to split the unit between two or more ships so that a sub doesn't kill the whole unit.

Thanks. I also have an impending battle in China, where I want to purge the losers from. I'll check Jug leadership. I'm not worrying about shipment. My DDs have been good with that. I've recently beaten up two IJN sub between Pearl and US.

I know drop tank availability is variable. I'm happy Wildcats have them now.

I'm recalling my carriers. Want to get rid of the TBDs.

This old fossil arrived. The Bretagne. WWI era. Two more French cruisers are also incoming. All have crap 5,000 - 6,000 mile ranges. They'll most likely escort invasion TFs.

Two more Jug squadrons arrived and are enroute to San Francisco. Once they're in, I'll ship them to Pearl.

IJA took their shot at me in China. Good for me, bad for him.

My Bretagne class BB (Lorraine) arrived in Panama. All 4,700 miles of her range... Definitely not a Pacific ship. She's heading to Pearl, via San Diego.

Kienko falls quickly. Most of my troops are pursuing, leaving one behind. One base unit from Chungking is enroute to make it an airbase. Supply isn't flowing in well, though.

An amphib convoy is loading up a Pearl to deliver supply and retrieve troops from Marcus. My carriers are moving to escort. Another operating base up there will be nice. I don't like stealing supply from Pearl, with their dire situation, but I need to do something. More convoys are enroute from the States. Once my big invasion kicks off, supply demands should ease a bit.

Starting location, arrival and withdrawal dates needs fixing.

Lorraine moved from Alexandria to Dakar via Cape Town on a journey that took from early July 1943 to mid-October, she then served as training ship before being refitted starting December 1943 in order to participate in the Dragoon landings.

So should arrive at Aden later and withdraw earlier, and never really served in the AE area, just passing through.

Basically just eyecandy I borrowed from Skylander's mod with his kind permission.

My Marcus bound transports and their escorts are about a day away from Midway. I figure about 9 days to reach Marcus.

The USA 43rd Infantry division and a USMC raider battalion are currently starving to death there.

In Burma, my monster force of LCUs are a couple days from clearing the jungle and being one hex from Magwe. A major oil center, by the way. I've got an Indian para unit and lots of transports at Akyab, so I can drop them when a fight develops.

Supply is starting to tighten in Australia. Many main bases are at 20k or less, though Brisbane is sitting at over a million for some reason. The sucky thing about this mod is that HI doesn't produce supply.

The way this game slowly oozes its way around, I failed to noticed that my troops in Changsha and the neighboring city have gotten completely surrounded. I'll gather everyone into one big stack and try to push out. China's sorta been a sideshow and it's easy to miss trends as they happen. Reviewing the CAF, I've noticed my pools of decent planes have grown considerably, so I'm finally able to get rid of I-16 Rats and replace them with Vanguards, Lancers and Warhawks. I'm sweeping Canton next turn and bombing a hex near Changsha also. Bombers aren't filling in my pool, which sucks.

Subs got a few hits today. I can't wait until later this year, when the dud issue is completely gone.

My retrieval force has passed Midway and is onward to Marcus. I'm almost hoping he challenges this.

I'm getting more supply to Pearl. They're consuming supply ferociously right now. I'm hoping once I kick off my invasion, this will ease off a bit. It should by the time I take the Philippines.

I would still use the I-15s and I-16s as training planes. The would also work for night CAPs.

The xAKs lost in the actions around Moulmein, Waingapoe, the Marshalls, Marcus etc. should have been used to haul supplies to PH and Australia. xAKs have no business in invasion task forces - invasions which have been launched IMO too early and too far away from friendly bases, I might add .

xAKs are useful to carry extra supplies for the invasion. Unload what they can for the invasion but leave when the troops are unloaded.

At times, I have to gather what I can for the task at hand. Lots of Australia's transports did go to the states to ship stuff out.

At this point, I have lots more assault transports handy for that stuff.

Planes from Akyab, and I think Calcutta sortie out to hit ships. Their skills seem lacking compared to their buddies out east. Odd he had no CAP anywhere.

More supplies reaching Pearl next turn. Supply is being consumed at a ferocious rate there, dropping a few hundred thousand within about 10 days. I'm hoping I won't have to add ships from Pearl to bring more supply in.

Essex arrived in Panama. Wasn't watching and thought it would be awhile yet. In two months, I'll have two more of them as well as three Independence class CVLs. Then stuff will happen.

My convoy is two days from Marcus. The ASW flying floatplanes in the carrier groups have spotted two subs lurking there. I wish they'd attack instead of just sighting them.

Yes, this one's still going. I've learned to cherish any game which actually makes it into 1943. I've had lots of opponents bail on me before then.

Pretty much every carrier in the IJN has sortied out towards Marcus, intent on catching mine. I've moved mine at full speed to the NE, along with the transports and my nearby oilers. Despite not quite unloading at Marcus, there is plenty of supply there and the planes have mostly repaired and can possibly strike if need be. Hopefully, he just heads back and I can resume business.

What tripped this off was that my carriers smacked some small transports in the area. He does have some ships north of Marcus. They must have sped also, but he'll have to deal with fuel.

My one RN carrier I sortied out from Pearl is a day from meeting the rest.

03 June 1943

Another month. Pool-wise, not much for new Navy aircraft until November. Another Airacobra and Lightning variants show up this month. Jugs will arrive next month.

I made the mistake at Wake at setting the dive bombers' range too far and they got clobbered by KB. 300+ fighters on cap. 3 days until Essex is on-map.

They're 7 hexes due west of Wake. My ships are all well to the north. Once he decides to head back, I'll go and finish my job.

Yeah... I've been slow. AARs seem like more work than the game itself.

28 June 1943

Stuff's been arriving.

My carriers had been hanging out around Marcus island. I've had transport there unloading supplies and getting all the non-needed combat troops out of there, to deal with the stacking limits. They've been starving for several months now. About a week ago, Wasp winds up eating a sub torpedo. She didn't share the real ship's fate and did make it back to Pearl. Soon after Essex arrives to take her place.

KB then shows up around the 24th. I'm worried about my transports getting hit. I wasn't able to cancel their troop loading, though I got around that a day later. My carriers move in and attack.

A whole lot of nothing accomplished. He didn't launch any strike at all. I think he was prepping to hit the island instead, since he didn't see my carriers beforehand. I manage to get all my ships out, while he's hanging about 6 hexes NE of Marcus. He did launch a sweep that day.

My planes there have been recovering, since supply has arrived. I'm not sure if he'll strike the island yet or not, but his ships are now moving westerly, so he may be bugging out. I have plenty of PBYs present there, so I can keep a good watch on him. Two convoys are enroute, to bring supply and to remove the remnants of the USMC division I still have there. It's pretty much all motorized support, the slowest to load on ships. I think I'm only about 1,000 over the stacking limit now, which should help the supply situation.

Speaking of supply, Pearl has been consuming more than I can ship. The cause is probably the fact that I have about 600,000 more troops there than I can support. I should have done this ages ago, but I'm now loading as many troops as I can to ship to the states. Hi capacity areas like San Diego and Los Angeles. Hopefully this help things. I do have plenty of fuel there, so naval matters are good. All troops prepping for my next invasion are still staying there.

CVL Independence is currently at Pearl. I think two or three more Essex ships plus some CVLs should arrive within the next month. Once they're in and my supply situation taken care of, I'll probably kick off my Marianas invasion. Lots more troops and planes I can get rid of from Pearl.

India's pretty stagnant right now. I'm shipping supply to Akyab and running lots of planes from there. I think Jugs are stocking up in the pool, so they can only help.

Why would you ship troops back to the States? Why not to Australia?

At this point it seems like you need to develop a few steady vectors of attack to keep the Japanese moving and split their resources.
