Some people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

This is a classic, not likely ever to be seen again. It deserves the value of a wonderful antique.

I have been playing it since it came out and price per hour of gameplay has been less than a penny......

There will be a discount around the Christmas time. 40-50% off or something.

Plus, there is always inflation.

This is the best game money can buy. And yes it has had updates. Last one was 3 years ago, but One of the original team members has just updated and added to the scenarios. This game IS the best time you'll have as long as you are willing to learn and be patient....GP

Seems GG / 2by3 games are always still expensive even when "old"... WITE/WITW the same. I also found that an older game named Aegods Civil WarII was still up for 34,99 or so (Euro)...I had played the 1st Civil War game years ago and found it quite good. Luckily I found a seller for the game costing only 9,99 - it was an offer just for this site (fanatical games I believe is the seller - they sell the steam keys and one must activate and download the game from steam). I am quite happy to report the CWII game is also quite fun.

Bit OT....

This is considered one of the most complex games ever created and very few computer gamers have the passion necessary to try and master it. Most kids want games that can be completed in a few hours, not years. Because of the small market segment interested in this kind of mental challenge, the development costs must be covered by relatively high price.

As others have mentioned, the game is very cheap in price per hour and it has legs because no two sessions of the Grand Campaign unfold in the same way and because various mods by pros and a fans have introduced interesting wrinkles. If your personality is to grind at challenges and pay attention to huge amounts of information, you would probably love the game as much as most forumites here do and will consider the price well worth it. I paid about $80 CDN for the game 10 years ago and still play it almost exclusively.

In my whole life I've wasted more time only on one other game, the venerable Mount&Blade.
66 (post-brexit ;) pounds will give you great value per hour of gameplay.

We can decide whether the price is worth it (it is, unless our budget prevents, which will be the case for some) but we don't get to decide the price. Matrix does that, based upon supply and demand. More power to 'em.

It's not the age of the game, but whether YOU are the kind of person who likes very deep and complex strategy games. That is not a shot at you personally, but a fair warning. The campaign version of WitP-AE can literally take human YEARS to complete. You have to really enjoy the logistics aspect of warfare, because that's what most of this game is all about.

So if that's a lot of money for you (and for many folks, it is), take your time and read through the many AARs to get a feel for what a long campaign really looks like. If that leaves you licking your lips and wanting to dive in, then - and ONLY THEN - would I say this is a GREAT investment. As so many others have already said, you are talking about paying pennies per hour of enjoyment - for some of us it's more like 1/100th or 1/1000th of a penny per hour. No better bargain anywhere!

While logistic isimportant, my memories have not any of logistics but naval battles, and air-naval ones.

If you aren't astute enough to recognize what that means then you likely don't have the mental acuity necessary to be able to take this game on.

That's cool to know. Does that mean there are exactly that many games bought and as a result, probably that many players over the years?

It's more than I would have thought.

IIRC when I bought the game, I wasn't sure what the price would be in $CDN until I clicked on the buy link. There were three options - download only, download with CD, and download with CD and paper manual.

A lot of people could have clicked on that to check the price and decided not to buy.

Just purchased this baby at 30% off (Halloween Sale) and installing as I type. I've been playing and investing significant time in MWiF for the past 5/6 years but looking forward to putting some (a lot) of that time in WITF-AE. Can't wait to see how that goes.

Great to have you aboard as it's nice to see one of the more thoughtful and helpful MWIF players taking WitP-AE for a spin. It's a hell of a ride!

To be honest, as much as I agree with the general sentiment of this thread, I do think Jepo has a point.

At this stage, sales of AE have tapered off. There's generally a surge of forum activity when the game goes on sale.

I do wonder if it would not be a solid move to lower the price at this late stage to entice the "looks good but too expensive" crowd in to purchasing.

Can't claim to be any marketing expert, but it makes sense from the community perspective to sell ten copies a month for £30 rather than 5 copies at £60.

Given that digital copies of the game are now a thing (with less costs than boxed), I do wonder why the price hasn't been slashed just to "pump the numbers".
