I can't get one of my 60mm mortars to fire.
They have 24 rounds and the unit says "firing" when I hover the mouse over it, but When you click on it it says No Target.
I move it, change arc, change target and still nothing.
It has happened with this particular unit through two battles so far.

I had some issues when i first played the game. I think it happens when you move the mortars around in-battle. For that reason I just kept my mortars stationary the whole battle, never moving them. And this solved the issue.

Another issue I noticed with mortars is that, when firing, the ammunition count disappears. This can be aggravating because you should always know how much ammunition they have.

No, the unit starts the game in that condition.
I moved it around to try and get it to fire.
Usually when you move a mortar unit, they take some time "setting up". This unit never has a setting up period after movement.
Almost like the unit is not a mortar unit.

The ammunition count disappears sometimes when you change their covered arc.
They will have to set up again.

The mortar itself may be out of ammuntion. This can happen if you are in a series of battles where the mortar fires off all its ammunition and the attacker make Hasty Attacks. We're adding a warning to the unit info on the Force Selection screen to indicate this. Is the gunner showing the mortar in the soldier list or his side arm?

The mortar has 24 rounds and was just added to the force selection from the reserves that battle.
Next battle I removed mortar,
The following battle I readded the unit with same results.
This never happened until I updated to version 1.05.
I am on my third complete campaign game so I know pretty well how the units work.
My only other option is to restart a new campaign and see how that works out.
QUESTION!!!
How do you recognize which unit is which in the force selection screen. The only way I knew which mortar to deselect was by the experience level because I had been playing with two mortar units from the start and their experience level was higher.
There should be someway to recognize the units on the force selection screen by the leader name.
Thanks
Tom

And btw-the mortar is showing in the gunners screen and not his sidearm. One other member of the team has the status of Too Close for his carbine.
I tried firing the mortar the length of the screen for the longest shot and close also with the same results of No Target for the gunner.

I just started a new campaign with three mortar units and all three fired successfully.
Must have been a bug in the old campaign?

Thanks slaphappypappy -- could you please zip and post the saved game file for the problem campaign? I will take a look.

Mortar and MGs from the weapons platoon aren't given a unique custom name by default but you can change this via the 'rename' button on the soldier screen if you want to identify them.

Have you noticed if the problem happens when you re-load a game that was saved in battle or has it happened when starting a battle from the Force Selection screen too?

It happened again but this time with both of my original units that previously had no problems.
It appears that it did happen after saving in battle and continuing later.

It's one thing to lose such important fire support, but the mortarless units are worthless in battle.

Update!!!
When I save in a battle to come back to later, I usually just hit the continue button from main screen.
This time I hit Play Game, Clicked on saved games, highlighted saved game and then clicked on play campaign and they were working normal.

Is this repeatable if you try on the same savegame?

Cheers

I had the same exact thing happen to me playing First Blood as the Germans. My 81mm had 21 rounds and no matter what I tried or where I put it, I think it always said "NO TARGET" and would not fire... Version 1.0.5

So - the confirm the issue you are seeing: if I use the above save, and load using Continue, then none(?) of the mortars will successfully fire? That is what you are seeing?

Cheers

Well the more I play the more crazy it gets.
It is only ONE mortar unit, and the same unit everytime that wouldn't fire.
Now in another battle, a mortar unit that never experienced this problem all of a sudden won't fire.
I don't know how to explain it any better.
When I load by Play Game the problem went away, BUT the new unit that won't fire wouldn't fire no matter how I load the game.
So that rules out any issues on how to load save games I guess.
It is unfortunate because I really did enjoy the game.
Anyway, I've played this so much I'm about done with it.
Overall it was a great game and I'll wait to see if any new add ons become available.

I agree with this. It's annoying.
