I know this is very basic but I am completely stumped. I checked the game manual first but I don't know what is wrong.
I have tried several scenarios and I am unable to get the formation editor (F4) to display.

I click on a group of ships and then the short cut or F4 and nothing happens.

What step am I missing?

I found F4 activates the formation editor only in group view and only if the group selected has the white lines connecting the ships together. Sometimes I have to re-select the group leader because when flipping from unit to group view with the group I want to edit the formation for already selected, it will not show the white lines at first when I press V to go to group view. If that happens, F4 does nothing. Click on the group leader again and the white lines then appear and then F4 will bring up the formation editor dialog box. At least that's how it seems to work for me.

You and the team continue to do compelling work that remains one of the few other games I always have installed. Congrats on the new release and another big leap forward!

This is hopeless. I cannot get the Formation editor to display. the G key is NEVER available. There have never been any white liens pointing to other ships in the group.

That doesn't surprise me, because I have yet to get a single aircraft to do what I tell it to do. I create a new mission, Add the aircraft to the mission, have two waypoints in the waypoint window. and the plane just goes in circles.

I uninstalled the game. I can't play a game that doesn't work. I know you think it is my fault.
But if it is so complicated that a simple function like getting the formation editor to respond then
it just isn't worth the aggravation. It's only money and it isn't the first game I have wasted it on. Thanks

He is customer that has a problem with a very complex game. It's sad he didn't even get one helpful answer to his problem. I would like to help him but I don't know how because I'm new to this game. I hope I'm not being called a baby now, too.

"This is hopeless"

You get back what you put into it.

btw, he got a pretty helpful answer. Looking at his other posts, he is struggling with some pretty basic stuff. Again, some people aren't ready to play a game this complex. There is some basic stuff you have to be proficient in to get the most out of it. People who struggling reading the manual, knowing about directories and folders, reading forum posts for new players, or don't have the ambition to solve some of their own problems will only get frustrated.

You are absolutely right the game is complex and not for everyone. But I don't think "this is hopeless" is in any way or form offensive. It just reflects his frustration and he has my sympathy. I'm very glad that people like you are around to help people like me or memleak. So I thank you for that.

I should also point out that he thinks G brings up group mode. That shows he probably hasn't even cracked the manual yet. I suspect, as was already pointed out, he has switched to unit view where formation editor doesn't work because, you guessed it, you are in unit view. All because he never looked up how to switch to unit view or read up on Group display. That right there is some VERY basic stuff and shows a lack of respect for the people trying to help.

I'm not sure anyone could have given him any more info for him to work it out. The feedback he got was spot on. He just wanted someone to hold his hand through one of the most basic parts of the game.

"This is hopeless"
"I am uninstalling the game"
"It's only money and it isn't the first game I have wasted it on."
"it just isn't worth the aggravation"
"I can't play a game that doesn't work"

I separated out the lines of interest for effect. This is a person that just wants it handed to them. I mean come on...He can't figure out the formation editor after being told explicitly how to do it. He can't have read anything in the manual or even looked at hot keys.

I come back to my old trope of I am willing to help people who will in some way help themselves. But coming in and really denigrating the game after being unwilling to put some basic effort into it will get pushback from me. The one good thing is, he seems to realize it and has moved on.

I went and checked a few scenarios just to be sure that there wasn't some new CMO quirk or bug about formation editors. Nope. It works. Just like it's supposed to.

I suspect many of his problems could be solved by "RTFM." It's a pretty good manual. I read the whole thing while waiting for the game to be ready to download.

I’ve found most people on here to be very helpful, even eager to share their knowledge, tolerating even with the proverbial “stupid” question. I guess It all depends on your attitude. I’ve found the approach of remaining calm, detailing what I’ve tried, not expecting to be spoon-fed, making an effort to search for existing threads and maybe approaching the group with a little humility and/or humor helps immensely. Since this is a complex game I also tend to assume I missed something if I don’t get what expect the first time. It always amuses and amazes me how many people blow up and assume the game is broken and poorly designed because they don’t understand.

Beyond that I try to keep calm and carry on. It’s a game after all. Keeping that attitude when asking for help has often led to a far better reception than the other gentleman got.

Lets replay this one out...

The OP's last post:

"I uninstalled the game. I can't play a game that doesn't work. I know you think it is my fault.
But if it is so complicated that a simple function like getting the formation editor to respond then
it just isn't worth the aggravation. It's only money and it isn't the first game I have wasted it on. Thanks"

That was after being given some pretty clear answers on what the issue was. His next post was wondering why no one was helping him. Then the winner post above. Prove to me that the OP deserves any more help. He's claiming the game does't work and he wasted his money. I'm missing why he deserves any sympathy.
