Invasions need rework, seriously. Currently it is nonsense, allowing spawning invasions anywhere if you have landing crafts. Guard your ports is not an answer. Any side can land anywhere while your fleet can't do anything about it.

I would suggest these changes
1. You can invade only if surface combat ships are in the task force.
2. For unguarded port, you don't need to invade, you can just sail in and disembark.

It's very easy to defend vs these kind of invasions. Just 1 fleet and 1 air unit sits out at sea. Very little chance that invasion fleet will get to invade if it is naked of ships.

If your coast is empty and you get invaded it's on you.

If you look at records you will see that there were many patrols all the time, troops on the coast, reserve troops, air craft in the area all to protect the shore lines.

Can you take a look a Grey Hunters Replay "Let's Play Warplan" video 7 on Youtube. He invades UK and the UK navy does zip. Like it doesn't exist.

You can not keep fleet nonstop at the sea. Having surface ship to be part of invasion is plausible request and as far as I know all invasions were done in that manner. Pack corps on transport and land it wherever you want without even having a navy is just silly.

Taking empty ports should by possible without invasion, just disembark directly in port as I propose in point 2.

Is it vs the A.I. and how old is the video?

The new A.I. should be patrolling it's coast.

Actually I think it's too easy to a leave port. A port can be literally surrounded by enemy naval units and air units but can be evacuated without any chance of intercept at all.

Yes, like your French fleet was leaving Amsterdam - all my bombers never got one attack !!!

This applies for both, evacuation and invasion. Fleet is interdicted only at arrival hex. Of course you move to safe one when evacuating and you pick up for invasion also such place where is no enemy in vicinity(and is impossible to guard everywhere).

I have actually been thinking about this very issue.

What I considered was this....

Say I had a fleet of ships in a port. I knew the enemy was coming would I sit there?
##Game terms someone moved a bunch of planes on their turn to be near the port and it cost 2 opts and they couldnt attack.
No I would move.
##Game terms my opponent ended the turn. I decide to move the ships out. No air interception players scream foul!!!
So when would I move? I would move starting at dusk moving through the night.
##Game terms if allowing for 12 hours night travel that means I moved 10 hexes away.
But instead I decide NOT to move. I forget or I say screw it I'm staying.
##Game terms enemy fleet attacks the port with air and naval units on their turn.

But still this is something I have to think about. I keep thinking of Truk and the trapped Japanese which literally had no way to escape because the Allies surrounded the port. In WarPlan they could leave. So how to remedy this without it becoming a gamey mechanism. This is what I am working out.

Use recon and intercept functions that are in the game now. There may be a need for an additional feature for the Patrol grp. Allow subs and patrol vessels to conduct recon by increasing their detection in the hexes they occupy or adjacent hexes in a diminishing recon perspective.

If the enemy is detected allow naval vessels in range in fleet mode to have a better opportunity to intercept. There is no such thing as an iron clad impenetrable domain that can never be escaped from.

Sure they can leave at night. That's ok because they can only move 6 hexes.

But if they move at day they should get bombed or chance of intercept by enemy naval units on patrol.

The most annoying thing is that every 'Dunkirk' type evacuation cannot be stopped. They always escape unscathed. I have had UK units trapped in ports so many times. But they always get away because the intercept is only possible at the destination. Not the embark port. So we all know that and the current situation is being abused by everyone.

It's a tough mechanism to do correctly.
