Alright,
Then I guess rd.2 pairings in reality look like this.

Zovs vs Cpt. Flam
Tyronic vs mdanz

Round 2 Pairs:

Mdanz (DAK) v. cheltham (Commonwealth) --> in progress
tyronec (TBD) v. sandy (sandy picks colors) --> [?]
comte (Commonwealth) v. cachou (DAK) --> comte WD
larry (bye 3/4)
cpt flam (TBD) v. zovs (TBD) -->in progress
jack00 (Commonwealth) v. bkilpat01 (DAK) --in progress [?]
pikeyjon (TBD) v. hellen (TBD)--> in progress

Is what I have so far ... thinking of accelerating pairings for Round 3 (est. start for Round 3 is Jan 1)

Thank you, will incorporate that info in next grid.

I have lost contact w/: sandy , jackoo, bkilpat, and pikey?

Not sure if they are on vacation or otherwise incommunicado.

At any rate, we shall plow onward. I hope to have a new newsletter this week.

It is disappointing when people drop out and couldn't even be bothered to let you know.
Maybe it would help things if you did a circular around participants before the next draw, and only included those who responded.

Yes, but some of the folks are "on-line" only for the PBEM plus plus, I think, and may not even log in to the forums. They joined via "diplomatic pouch".

I have regained contact w/ bkilpat, but I can only message him through the "diplomatic pouch" in our on-line games. I think it was his game in Round 1 that has had a glitch courtesy the "on-line" PBEM, and I am still trying to sort that out.

I did send sandy your info, not sure what happened there, but I know he is busy w/ work a lot.

Not sure what happened w/ Jack and Pikey.

RE: a circular, I hesitate to email it out via shotgun, b/c it might just be delivered as spam, or some people just may not want the clutter. If (OTOH) people willingly sign up for such a circular (either via email or a message to me from here), I could start an email list and blast it via BCC copies.

With that in mind, if anyone wants to get newsletters via email (whether they are in the tourney or not), they can message me or email me their emails from here, and I will start a list.

So far, I have just been posting a link to the newsletters, that I store on the cloud (and will continue to do so regardless.)

I will strive for "valid" pairings in Round 3 (which I hope will start NLT Jan. 1, 2020)

[Edit: round 3 entries are closed as of 12.13.2019]

As far as I know, the top boards right now are mdanz / tyrone / cachou / zovs / cams. Y'all are definitely the front runners right now. It is looking more and more likely that I will be paired w/ Larry again for Round 3. He is tough!

Okay, I am working on a new newsletter and hope to have it ready in the next few weeks. Looking for a new cover image (something not on the web, something unique, derived from the extensive WWII archives at a nearby University, which very kindly allows me browsing privileges).

PS: some reading suggestions, Upton Sinclair's "Lanny Budd" series of novels ... I am currently on #4 in the series, Wide is the Gate ... Lanny is getting more and more involved w/ Nazi "underground" resistance at this point, we are into the Spanish War now ... a very engaging read!

Well, until the next news letter ... Have a great gaming day!

Any thoughts about possibly using a different scene for Rounds 3 and 4?

I was looking at "Normandy Rommel" scene and actually started two games
on the server as the Allies,
I got through Allied turn #1 but have not had replies yet.

managed to land American engineers on the beach after taking out some German coastal artillery

and got the 101 and 82 airborne landed

Thoughts? Maybe a different scene? Normandy Rommel is ~25 turns, with some interesting factors for Germans

zovs had suggested some others Some suggestions would be:
Sinai 1967 (14 turns)
Leipzig 1813 (15 turns)
Meuse-Argone 18 (14 turns)
Guadalcanal 1942 (24 turns)
Smolensk 41 (23 turns)
France 1944 Cobra (20 turns)

I kind of lean toward Normandy w/ Rommel or Leipzig if we switch.

Well, what do you all think? Stick with Tobruk, or switch it up for Rounds 3 and 4?

Maybe we could play mirror games in the last two rounds?
That way pairings for Round 4 would be apparent?

Thanks again for your kind suggestions!

Personally am quite happy to play another two rounds of Tobruk, it is probably the best scenario I have played in TOAW and worthy of another couple of games. Am also wary that a lot of scenarios are not working great in TOAW IV, not saying that applies to any of these but would need to be checked.

Playing a double header for the 3rd/4th rounds kind of makes it not work as a Swiss tournament but not a big deal, happy to go either way.

I'm getting tired of Tobruk myself. We have been looking at that one for two months or so now. Look at the Rommel Normandy Scenario for an hour or two. It looks fun. And it has an invasion..
There's coastal guns to take out or the boats cant land.. etc. etc.
Something other than Tobruk for at least one round would be nice.

How does the Interdiction pan out with Rommel Normandy - there are a lot a aircraft in that scenario ?

I played Market Garden recently and frankly it just didn't work as a game because of Interdiction.

I moved a few counters around from south to north. They all made it and were attacked 5-6 times. Some equipment losses. no evaporation's.

Hi to all players.
I choose to retire from the tournament.
Actually playing with Don, but we will not have time to finish scenario for the first of January.
We do at most a turn by week, you can see the problem.
It would not be fair-play to continue to get better value then people who get trashed in a game.
Good game for you.

Cpt flam, that's cool, rejoin if you can later.

For the Normandy/Rommel scene, I started one on line and was able to take out some of the coastal guns and able to get some engineers on the beach.

Not sure what happened to opponent, I am still awaiting his German side turn #1 ...

I wonder if he opened the game, then saved it, and wound up w/ a PBL file that he now does not know where to send.

Ah, well, if he sees this message then he can email from here.

The lack of explanation of how that works (or does not work) in on line play must be frustrating to new folks

I heard that there was a way to save the game from on line for later (I think Larry said just close the file, and not "save") but I'm not sure.

It looks like the tournament is disintegrating. I'm having a good game against chelthum(ie; Raza epothacary) It's very loose with counters running all over the desert.
What does that leave? about 4-5 people?

So I guess we'll stick w/ Tobruk? Cool w/ me, it was just a thought.

I have regained some contact w/ sandy and BK, not sure if they will play round 3.

So I think we have at least 5 still committed, and maybe 2 or 3 others that may still continue.

Games still in progress:

mdanz v. cheltam
Tyronec v. cachou

I think I was playing Pikey when I lost contact in that one around move 18 or so ...
it was a loss for me there; I think it was significant loss for me at that point.

Will score it that way if he does not continue, plus a WD if I don't hear from him.

Larry, Zovs, if you see this message, do you want to continue in Round 3?

Still working on a newsletter, was hoping to get results and new pairings in it, so it will be a few weeks probably.

I'm very relaxed about which scenario and what the format is, go for whatever scenario people want.
All am saying is if it is not one that appeals to me will not start rather than dropping out part way through.

I just noticed this:

fr Zovs: (our other game was a draw)

I think that is for round 1?

Not sure if I jotted that, round 1 is draw re: Zovs v. Cpt Flam, confirmed?

In round 2, cpt flam indicated a WD early on, I think that was a draw, too?

No rush, I will score it a draw for pairing purposes Round 3, unless advised otherwise.

NP, tyronec, I think we are going to stick it out w/ Tobruck for this one. I think that will be best ... for me, I have not yet found a way to win in Tobruk, from EITHER side. So let's stick w/ Tobruk and maybe I can squeak a win in Round 3.

Maybe next tourney will be Normandy/Rommel?

Maybe a Normandy/Rommel round robin style next, w/ four entries?

Just a thought!
