I'm enjoying the game but have noticed it's impossible to win as the central powers if you don't play the whole faction.
I've played with Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire and was doing really well with both but I always lose because my allies can't hold multiple fronts.
I expect the Ottomans to lose but I was really frustrated when Germany had a massive upgrated army at the Russian front and didn't do anything with it, they just sat there doing nothing while they had only 3-5 troops at the western front which soon became zero and even then they didn't reinforce.
Austria-Hungary also gets absolutely rekt as soon as Italy declares war.

I know it's meant to be played as a faction but I would like to see the A.I. at least hold on longer than 1916.
I love the game though, I'll start a new campaign and play the whole faction this time, I just wanted to provide some feedback.

Thanks for the feedback and in the next update the AI will have a minor modification where it will transfer a few less troops when attempting to re-balance weak versus stronger fronts and this may help in your games as described above.

Similar problem I have in my game for Russia. In this game Great Britain do nothing in the Middle East (but when I play for Axis - it's very active).

This sounds like a different issue then based on the feedback from both of you, let me investigate further.

I believe I've found this and it will be corrected for the next update.

I'm playing as Germany only. AH seems to be holding there own against Russia, lost the oilfields but still have Lemberg, Stanislaw, and Przemysl with Lemberg changing hands a couple of times. I'm only December of 14 though. AH has Belgrade but hasn't made much progress beyond that and the Ottoman's just got into there major mobilization so we'll see what they do.

I like to play with only controlling one or two of the nations, that way you have to live with and adjust to whatever your AI allies do. It's an unpredictable bit of fun, and you can always take over for a move or two if you so desire, great feature, thank you

once the patch is released will it benefit ongoing games?

I've found the same thing across two games, so will toss in some feedback.

I found while playing Germany only that the Austrians were hesitant to push into Serbia on their own - sending the first German deployable troops toward Serbia was the most effective way to get Serbia done, although this is inefficient (travel time or operate costs).

Austria seems to consistently lose Galicia, which is fair - but I found that my control of Austria can lead to much better defense. Perhaps as a human player I am launching more counter-attacks with the aim to kill units, where the AI seems to do this less often or only after the Germans have made the situation more attractive. Could be that the AI's threshold for attacking could be a bit high.

I also agree that AI Austria seems to have a lot of trouble with Italy, and requires German assistance from the get-go.

I think another thing that could be contributing to issues like these are the AI's focus on holding cities. When I am in control I will attempt to create a bottleneck in the mountains, but the Austrian AI always keeps a good number of units back as garrisons. I believe they should have a way to recognize the importance of moving troops towards Italy to defend in the mountains once Italy declares war.

Thanks guys and I can confirm that this will greatly improve in the next update, I fudged a simple setting and corrected it now and it should make a significant difference. However it will only apply to new games going forward with the next patch.

Good, hope next time my German only will have better allies.

AH lost the Oilfields and just taking back in '17, when the Russians are almost done entirely. While the Ottomans are already out of the war, failed defending the Middle east from Egypt and Basra, as well as the Russians, that one is really interesting, since the Russians would really benefited from those units against my Germans, esp after had to divert large chunk of them from east to Italy, since AH botched that defense too, and the Italians were under Wien when arrived and saved them, mostly to protect Germany. It would be an interesting peace talk conference:

During '17, both France and Russia Collapse, after the Ottoman did the same, and the UK fleet shrank smaller than the German one, without any sub warfare so USA not involved in any form. Probably the Serbs would keep everything, while the Italians get their demand from AH, The AH would collapse by itself, but since no Romanian entry, it would be a somewhat normal run. So independent Croatia, Czech and Slovak republic, Hungary and Austria With some proper borders between these nations (or many small wars to find out), while Germany Takes whatever he wants from Russia and France, and keeps good friendship with Belgium that he saved from the evil French attack in late '14. The Ottoman dismantling happens, but many of the colonies taken by the UK goes for Germany while the UK colonial empire crumbles. Dunno how the Poles would fare in this, maybe they would get a smaller polish area from the falling AH, or it would be absorbed by the others.

Didn't know you could hand over control and just play say Germany! Well that's upped the game for me and that's a fact!

Thanks

And you can play important moves for your AI controlled allies, then let the AI play the rest. Also I believe you can switch sides or switch control as you play.

You can play as only Germany and tell you've played WW1 game?
You will be missing remaining parts of WW1...
