Ok, so I have played a few days into the Ironman Campaign as allies...things are slowly falling into place (one rivet at a time)...next on my list to figure out is production: I have read the production section of the manual and will start looking at my production centers, etc.. As Allies, is there anything I need to pay special attention to? "Production must do's" as the Allied player? Any push in the right direction would be appreciated!

There really isn't an allied production system. The Japanese have one but that's it.
Some allied players shut down heavy industry on NZ and OZ to conserve fuel, but that is it....GP

Your planes still needs HI for production, so don't turn off all of it.

If you lose Base in which ships will appear, those ships are gone forever. Same with Bases with factories. They get immediately converted into Japanese Vehicle production, and you will not get them back, even after reconquering.

I wouldn't worry about the allied HI. LA alone churns out enough for almost the entire allied air industry.

losing west coast bases though is a real threat … don't let that happen.

Does allied pilot training consume HI?

Maybe, but it doesn't matter. Allies gain like 5000 Hi per day … within a month you are maxxed out on the counters, so don't even think about it.

There are some on-map allied aircraft factories. Like on the West Coast and in Australia (which do not seem to be requiring any engines for completion). You can toggle upgrades for some of the models off, if you prefer older variants for some reason. But that's pretty late in the campaign.

Examples:

SBD-3 vs SBD-5
P-38G vs P-38H/J
B-25C vs later models
B-24D vs later models
Wirraway vs Boomerang C-12
Beaufort VIII (radar & torpedoes!) vs Beaufighter 21

Something to think about.

And, as other have said, there are industries at remote areas that need some consideration as well. Oz, NZ. Even Pearl Harbor has HI.

Some time ago, there was guy here, who turned off all HI production on map, to save fuel. So it is possible :)

DO NOT turn off all Allied HI production. You need the HI points for pilot training. Alfred confirmed that within the past year.

The Allies don't need engines.

It says so in the manual.

Thanks for the reminder, L&L. I keep forgetting to do this (Beaufort VIII especially).

I generally shut down HI on Oz for 1-2 years. It's usually easier to bring supply there than fuel.

Cheers,
CB

I wonder how many readers remember him! His best line was in the skit about the baseball game when the crowd sang "José, can you see ..."
