[Updated: link]
(Old image, but you get the intent).

Still occasionally being tweaked.
Keeping it low key.
A classic game deserves a classic look.
Also considering a more primitive Tactics II version. The most retro boardgame I started on as a kid.

Magpius, when I turn off the hexes in the game, they only dissappear on the ocean tiles. Not on the land tiles. I see you specifically outlined the terrain tiles in the terrain.png. Why is that?

Like the look by the way! Takes some getting used too though. If you would publish the xcf file at any point I would probably have a go at it myself

I was hoping for a more solid hex outline, and yes they are rather chunky.
If only the hex outline.png was modifiable, along with the map text colour.
There is no hex outline on the ocean tiles, so that can be toggled.
I will upload a terrain.png file without the hex outline soon.
I realise this mod will not be everyone's cup of tea.
But I am just trying to capture that nostalgic sense of paper. I find a desaturated game palette more appealing.
As for the .xcf file; eventually.

Superb. Warplan has fully arrived with this mod. I just happened to have fired up Storm over the Pacific and Time of Fury a couple of days ago, and went straight for the AgentS map, first thing.

Thanks for the kind words.
A LOT of hours went into this.
But I will clean up river joints, do weather etc.
And a no hex terrain .PNG
Thoughts on colour tweaks or icon improvements welcome.
I'm still not satisfied totally with the mountains/ hills tiles.
May also modify background shading to distinguish between marsh and swamp.
But enjoy the holidays people.
It's all pretty hot and smokey in most parts of Aus. at the moment.

Added terrain file without hex grid overlay to post #1
OOPS
First one was missing a background layer.
Should be a little more opaque.
Fixed.
Sorry

Colour palette based on this image.
Not sure about red/pink border. Probably keep black.
(retro tiles next).
I have deliberately desaturated some colours.

Hi Magpius. I see you are having some troubles with the weather not showing. Well I see it now:

But I had to specifically copy the weather.png file into the campaign map. Which is weird, because omitting the weather.png should make the game revert back to the stock weather.png file for display.
But it seems it is not doing that for some reason.

I can't reproduce this behaviour with my mod either; it only happens with your mod...

Update: the culprit is your terrain.png. Don't know why (yet). Leave that one out the campaign folder and the weather shows fine. Here is a screenshot without your terrain.png:

Thanks for the fresh set of eyeballs.
Will take a look at the opacity of some of the layers.

Did a complete re-install, and weather does not toggle on/off in any scenario, modded or not.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
all other overlays are working.
I'm running Windows 7.0 pro inside parallels on a Mac Pro, but that should not make any differences.
I guess I just can't make this happen.

Since your using a lighter colored open ground map color, can you darken the font map city names so one can see/read them?

Unfortunately not.
Map text font and colour is hard coded.
The white text and drop Shadow is still legible, but it would be better if a toggle of light or dark colours were an option in settings.

This mod alone has me on the fence about to squeeze the trigger on Warplan, love that retro old school look. Were you able to get the weather transparency issue worked out Magpius?

yeah well I purchased the game and tried your mod, it looks really nice but yeah same thing with the weather, and even after removing all of the .png's the weather won't show up at all in any map or campaign. This has to be very frustrating for you since you put so much time into it and yet haven't gotten any reply at all as to why it's acting this way.

Well thanks for the effort, the mod looks great.

I did comment in your tech support thread the same finding, I am thinking it's in the games coding and it should be fixed because simply adding and removing .png files should not break the weather being shown.

I believe I've figured out the issue, for some reason no matter what campaign I try the weather in every hex is showing "Clear" and hence no weather graphic is being shown. I am hoping this can be remedied now that we know it's most likely nothing to do with the .png file.

Not familar enough with the inner workings as to why simply inserting a few .png files would cause the game to assign clear weather to every hex in every campaign.

Thanks Monkie.
I suspect some issue with an options file, as when I launch a clean install I get a game hang and a error in options file when first opened, which is odd, as I regedit any warplane data off the HD.
If this ever gets fixed, I will complete the mod, but for the moment, I'm back on TOAW and Schwerpunkt's Europe at War.
(Alvaro, please fix the game, every other graphic toggle works except for weather).

The bizarre part is that you only changed the .png files that were marked as modifiable, nothing else was added or taken away or modified in any way. Why adding a few .png files to a folder would cause only clear weather to be shown on ALL the campaigns has to be a major game killing bug. I'm sure it will be worked out, I've made it quite clear in the tech support section exactly the issue.
