Some may have heard of this story…this would be getting close to the desperation end of the tactics scale. I thought the photos were interesting…

Very interesting thanks for sharing. Although I've heard of the bombings I didn't know about the deaths involved. That's very sad.

Given the population density of Saskatchewan at the time I imagine the only possible inhabitants that might panic over knowledge of these bombs might be those of moose or mule deer.

However, I do wonder what the political fallout would have been had the Japanese ever used biological agents in these bombs as was once planned.

the idea was to start forest fires. and balloons landed all over the west coast of NA

there was no panic because the story was censored/ suppressed until after the war end

I believe that at least one American was killed as well.

As far as fighting fires, there was a black parachute unit that was used to fight fires. They were the original smoke jumpers.

If memory serves, was that a young mother and possibly additionally an infant child?

It was a long way from Guernica, and an excellent example of the stupidity of the Empire of Japan going to war with America (& Australia of course ;-) )

Fu-Go balloon bomb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fu-Go_balloon_bomb

"On May 5, 1945, a pregnant woman and five children were killed when they discovered a balloon bomb that had landed in the forest of Gearhart Mountain in Southern Oregon. "
