After defeating the USSR, conquering North Africa and repelling the Western invasion, London is the only remaining objective. However, I have been neglecting naval combat most of the time, except for raiding the Allied convoy routes. So it turns out the Allied fleet is HUGE by 1944. I don't even have a chance to cross to the UK, the AI is parking the whole fleet around the British Isles.

Am I too late to do anything about this? This is my very first campaign with the game (which I like a lot!), so I might be missing something. When I try to open a narrow corridor for my amphibious assault, the German fleet is sunk in a single turn.

At this point you should have an overwhelming airforce and very experienced HQ's.

Bomb the crap out of London. Once the unit in London is gone paratroop a unit into London & you win.

That was changed you have to clear the hexes around London now as well, iirc

hmm

I always considered the game over at this point.

Bomb (Maritime ++) the Allied Navy to smithereens and take a port city (paratroop) so you can transport.

If you haven't researched subs or Navy it could take a while.

Yeah, at this point it's I've won but it is damn annoying getting to the victory screen stage.

Thanks for the answers! So I am transferring all of my bombers to France, along with the nearly intact Italian fleet from the Mediterranean. If I can coordinate an attack, I might be able to maintain a narrow corridor for a single turn, and land 5 armies and/or tanks.

What is the best way to fight the British navy? Subs attacking together can sink a ship or two, but the retaliation is heavy. Can I lure the AI away somehow?

They must be reading the forums, for they unconditionally surrendered in December 1944. What a great first campaign this was, really memorable!
