I downloaded #25 from the Spooky site. I wanted to give this scenario a go as it removes the Midway ships and starts from May 1942. Just what I wanted. But something is wrong with this scenario. After an initial carrier skirmish I started to notice that the Japanese were very quiet. I played through to mid June 1942, and there was not a single air raid on PM. The Japanese carriers disappeared. Then when I sailed my carrier TF up the Solomon Sea not a single Japanese plane attacked the ships, while I parked my TF off the coast of Shortlands, then Rabaul and blew just about every Japanese ship I could find out of the water. So to test things I played the first turn of scenarios 19 and 25 several times as the Japanese and compared results. In Rabual on turn 1, the Japanese have about 50 fighters and 40 bombers. If you send the whole lot against PM, most times, weather permitting, nearly all those aircraft will attack. In #25 however, every time, only about 10 planes attack, and afterwards I notice about 75 planes are no longer at available status but are "in reserve". What does "in reserve" mean? Can anyone think what the author of this scenario could have tweaked to cause this mass withdrawal of Japanese forces?
