PBEM game - 2/8/2020 2:21:20 PM

Heya,
I am back for my annual checkup of state of the playability. From what I can read you can either play via Netplay with a lot of patience and savegames or you can play via PBEM more smoothly but you need to communicate via forums, discord or something like it to resolve things like combatresults and aircraft interceptions.

Is this a correct assessment?

I am a WIF-veteran but I have grown old waiting for a playable version of CWIF and later MWIF, so I am out of practice.
I would love to play a PBEM-game with someone to see if the game is playable!

I was part of the crew writing unitdescriptions in the early days of MWIF (i had the handle "capitan" back then), so i might have some old friends/aquaintances here.

I play both Netplay & PBEM and can say that both formats are not perfect but definitely enjoyable.

I am in Australia and am currently playing against opponents in Oz, Europe & North America. Yes an AI opponent would be great for practise, but it can't match the challenge, and fun, of playing another human.

To repeat; The game isn't perfect but playable and enjoyable.

I currently have a PBEM game going with composer99. I've found a full time job and one MWiF game going on at the same time is about all I can handle. But here's the kicker ... I retire on March 12th of this year.

I definitely would like to add another friendly PBEM game but my play time would be very limited until I retire. Perhaps a multi-player PBEM game with teams? I'd definitely be up for that even now.

Oh, congratulations on the retirement! I am counting down the years til I get to retire :-)
I like the sound of a multiplayer PBEM! Anyone wanna join us?

I cannot even get into the server so I have given up on Netplay for the moment.

I'd be interested. I'm using the latest patch. I'm keen to play as the Germans/Italians.

Ronnie
Warspite
Jesper

Are we aiming for 4? 5?
We could discuss options and how we go about chosing nations/sides.
Houserules?

You guys have surely played a lot more than I will rely on your experience.

I love to join a PBEM or an online game. I'm used to keep contact about resolving game situations through Skype and a PBEgames dice roller. Works perfect.
I'm a very experienced player. Hope to hear from you.

Sweet! That makes 4 of us! Should we wait for one more or should we go ahead?

I am not sure Ssiviour threw his hat in the ring.

I have no real preference except I have very little experience playing Axis.

I'm currently playing the axis (all MP's) against composer99. So, I'd like to play an allied MP, or MPs, in this one. Maybe the two of us could team up as the allies versus warspite & WILHELM_slith as the axis?

By the way, my preference would be for using a messaging service (e.g., WhatsApp) for real-time reactions but if everyone else prefers skype then I'd be willing to learn it. I have zero experience with skype, though. I guess I would need to pick up a headset if we went that way?

Sounds good. Any preference on nations? I have read that CW/France should be the same player as there is a lot of interaction between the two that can be cumbersome via mail/skype.

I am up for either way of communicating.
Do we wanna make an AAR out of this?

I'm up for an AAR.

It terms of how we divey out the allied MP's I'm up to anything that makes sense.

A thousand apologies. I will need to duck out if the method of comms is whatsapp or Skype. Really sorry I should have checked that first.

We can handle that another way as far as I'm concerned. Group (general) thread? How would you prefer to handle reactions?

warspite1

My method would be through the thread (with separate secret threads for each side). The only reason is I don't have whatsapp (I have a phone from 2005 that does me fine) and I'm too old to start mucking around with Skype. So as I say, if its a deal breaker I will excuse myself. If not then great.

I can't speak for the others ... but that's NOT a deal breaker for me.

That'll work for me. I'll take Russia/China/C.China.

Also, once the axis side is firmed up I propose we open a new thread for handling the game and start the discussion on optional rules.

Lets talk optional rules. Fun.

I have some questions as a PBEM-noob.
It seems like die-rolls are handled via another source in many/some of the AARs. How do you manually input the dierolls? Is this something you wanna do?

Do we have any standing orders for small decisions? How do we handle this? Or are all opponents decisions handled via the forumthread? Can you save the game in the mid of a decision?

As for optional rules I need to defer to our experienced friends.

Looks like we are on the same team then Wilhelm. Are you okay for me to be Germany/Italy?

Here are the optionals I use (except Extended game length should be off) - I post this as an opener only and am happy to go with the flow

warspite1, all, should we open another thread for this disucssion? If so, I propose warspite1 open it and post his opening position on optionals. This new thread could be our game thread.
