Hi all
I am a new player of DW and I come from nave playing a lot Stellaris from Paradox . I just have two questions: did someone in the forum made a little guide for people that enter the game? And what Is the difference between cautious ess and aggressivesness because I don't get it.
I also read that cautious factions Attack with more subtle ways than throwing their fleets at you , use spies, are pissed if you trespass in their territory , get tired quickly of war instead aggressive thrive in war and want it.
Then I find factions that are reckless and passive or cautious and aggressive. How do they act in the game ? Thanks for answers

I know you can play the game using diplomacy and such but I typically play boskara and just wipe out all life and ignore the pleading of the lesser races as my shaktur firestorm weapons melt the surface of their planets. If a few races manage to make it to planetary shielding its just a futile bid to live a little longer till I start building planet destroyers. It always ends in war anyways.

This is a pretty decent guy for newbie players. Entertaining to read as well.

Each of the factions has different victory goals for them to attain victory, for some, it is to have the least number of war declarations. Others it is to have the highest tourist income. For more aggressive species it is usually something related. This usually leads to factions behaving separately. So, you might notice an aggressive species might have a victory condition to remain at war for the max number of times, while a trade-related faction might have a victory condition to make max amount of money using trade. etc..

thx a lot everyone.about the meaning of difference between aggressiveness and cautiousness can someone enlighten me?

expecially when someone is aggressive and at the same time cautious or passive and reckless how do he act in the game?
because I read that every faction act much coherently with his lore.

I do not think the exact workings are well known. The Atuuk, are if I remember right, extremely aggressive and reckless. They also have weak forces. They tend not to do very well. I think there are "numeric" slides behind, where these names indicate that they are on a far side of some of these slides. For instance there is a friendliness setting, and you can see the numeric relation between factions, and this rating influences at what relation they want to do a free trade agreement, for instance.

My best guess is: Aggressive/Passive. How likely they are to figure out they should start a war.

Cautious/Reckless. Even if they want to attack, they consider their chances. They make some calculation of "My power, and their power", this influences what kind of ratio they would be happy with.

It is quite obvious that a consideration like the latter one is in place, as you won't be attacked if you are much stronger, but if you are at war with the rest of the world, they would join in as they consider their chances better.

These settings help in defining traits of empires, alongside things like reproduction rate, tech level, and probably more I forget about. Some are spreading like crazy and often succeeding, others are usually small and very strong, and the Atuuk empire don't survive until late game. Some "always" stay along until the late game unless the player messes them up.

Aggression
The general level of aggression and willingness to use violence. Highly aggressive races have the following attributes:

· more likely to attack or provoke others through ship attacks or intelligence missions, even against stronger empires

· more tolerant of war hardship, more willing to continue wars

· more likely to implement blockades when have trade sanctions against another empire

· build more large military ships like cruisers and capital ships

· assign more military ships to attack fleets

· include more weapons in their ship designs

· recruit more intelligence agents

· have stronger troops, and recruit more troops

· colony inhabitants defend against invasions more vigorously

· when an independent population, less likely to join an empire when colonized

Caution
The overall level of carefulness and prudence of the race. Highly cautious races have the following attributes:

· less likely to enter into treaties with other empires, also less likely to go to war

· more likely to attack or provoke others through ship attacks or intelligence missions

· higher level of concern at encroachments on their system’s territory

· more likely to placate other empires with monetary gifts

· less tolerant of war hardship, less willing to continue wars

· build more smaller military ships like escorts, frigates and destroyers

· assign more military ships to attack fleets

· military ships more likely to flee battles sooner

· include more shields and engines on their ship designs

· less willing to overspend on ship building

· recruit more troops

· show more care and caution when selecting intelligence missions, ensuring greater chance of success

· stock more resources at colonies

I found that. I think the main problem is that some aspects are influenced by the 2 bars ( cautiousness bar and aggressivesness bar) . For example willingness to go at war and willingness to continue a war. Now if i have a faction that have a lot of willingness to go at war for 1 bar and Little for the other do the real willingness ( how the faction will act in game) be at 0? ( Neutral willingness , so in the middle?) Same applies for willingness to continue a war.
For types of built warships there Is a similar problem. What if a faction Is willing to build more big ships and more Little ships ? Does the faction build 50% of each as It was neutral in each bar?
And a funny thing. By what i read cautious faction don't want wars. Or Better said they don't want Open wars, only cold ones. But they are more willing to Attack with ships in Little Frontier wars( same as aggressive ones). Now, how can they be sure things won't escalate?

Ship designs are set in text files. Most suggest to use the AI mod to reduce the player's opportunity to abuse the poor AI by using way superior designs.
Races has preferred or special government types, that also influences various traits. If you want to be a war monger, democracies are not your best choice, for instance. Racial traits and preferred governments are have probably not been set at random. Racial friendliness biases also help in creating natural allies and enemies.
