He's been kind enough to e-mail me his first turn, and I look forward to playing it when I get home this evening.

Good luck on the battlefield, Comrade.

Trying to edit the title of the post, because I've gotten our forces backward. For whatever reason, the board won't let me delete my own post and make another?

Finally news arrives from the front....communications have been down for some reason...
Soviet scouts probe deep into the heart of the town, cautiously though...smoke laid by both sides and heavy rain falling...
One BA-64 rushes through the deserted streets...to gain possession of a victory hex on the enemy's side of the city, quickly turning back across the bridge towards the north side of the river...half way across the bridge the roar of rockets fills the air..the crew of the AC see rockets land on the adjacent bridge as they cross...then more rockets rain down..on their bridge...it is the last thing they see..a direct hit on the bridge cuts yet another link to the north side of the city cut.
More smoke is laid around the city...we will see what emerges from the rainy gloom.

We have successfully cut the routes across the river in three locations with our rockets. Our forward units indicate contact with T-34's and motorized infantry units. The Soviet forces have already taken the Western (and some of the central) objectives.

It appears as though our recon elements will soon clash. Some motorcycle units have already spotted and engaged his trucks.

Our enemy intends to hold the ground he's already captures, and we are intent on dislodging him. I storm is brewing.

Our forces spot movement in the north and engage the enemy from across the river, pinning them but not causing casualties...
A longe range exchange with a StuG in the south proves fruitless.
M/C scouts engaged taking casualties....
Soviet artillery open up...Rockets fall on advancing Motorised SS infantry...sniper unit destroyed and others take losses
More German rockets rain down.. where are these mobile rockets?they must be reloading somewhere

More mortar fire pins down AT gun in the centre of the city....

A T-34 crashed through a deserted house to face a Stug standing at the end of the street...as the Stug traversed to line up the shot the T-34 managed one shot....missed..the StuG took better aim and destroyed the Soviet tank. :(

In the south, the M/C recon unit was finally flushed out and eliminated.

Another M/C unit was taken care of as it probed our positions too closely.

In the north, more fire is exchanged across the river, but without great effect.

The Soviets are gaining ground rapidly. There are T-34s on both sides of the river, and our reconnaissance assets have spotted Molitov AT squads to the South.

We are proceeding forward cautiously.

A Schwimwagon (sp?) gets a destroyed to the man as it scouts the Northern section across the river.

Another barely survives in the center of the map as it stumbles upon a 76mm AT gun in the street. That information is quickly relayed to our FOs, who call our mortars on the location.

We have another exchange of artillery with little effectiveness. I should watch the replay more often, I just now learned you have Katyusha units!

We await the Russian’s next move…

More casualties to report.

We lost another Schwimwagon across the river in the north to a single shot from a vigilant T-34. Another couple of half-tracks are killed by tank and HMG fire in the North and center. We destroy a jeep, and (hopefully) suppress a 12.7mm HMG. Another amphibious recon car is almost run off the road by a large Russian truck, but swerves to avoid it. Rounds are fired into the truck and it explodes.

In the center, we spot a soviet recon squad, and eliminate them with a half-track. A crew of a STuG will be decorated if they survive the battle for a single-shot kill against the T-34 (OP firing). Although our view of the AT gun was obstructed by smoke this turn, we drop more mortars on them for good measure.

In the South, we encounter more than we expected, a T-34’s there too! :o A MC recon squad seeks concealment behind smoke and hopes to outrun the tank.

Russian 122mm shells and rockets continue to pelt the remnants of a bridge in the far North, and key terrain in the North/center.

Back to you, RD :)

German forces have successfully crossed the river inthe north.

At first we believed they have used only Schwimmwagens carrying snipers alone, one of which was dispatched earlier, but now we find a Stug has managed to make it to the far side.

On closer inspection we see that the rail bridge at the very north of the city, although breached during an early German rocket bombardment, can still be used to cross as the water is shallow enough at the point of the breach. Maybe our artillery will be able to deny the enemy this vital link.

One of our Katyusha launchers has jammed..a major blow in supressing enemy movement.
More recon elements have been destroyed but we have yet to cause the enemy any significant losses. Hard battles must surely lay ahead.

In the rear the vigilant crew of a passing truck notice something move in a nearby house. Unable to see anything from the truck they dismount and see not 50m away a German Special Ops squad sheltering in the house.

Bravely they try to pin them down with pistol fire, but are wiped out by the hail of SMG fire returned. Surely they will receive a posthumous medal for their courageous actions.

The few infiltrators that successfully made it into the Russian rear have been sloppy indeed. They could have opened fire on a column of three trucks without escorts, but instead decided to stay "hidden". Poor choice it appears. The soviets have abandonded another truck closeby, but an armored car and mortar fire have us pinned down. We throw smoke to obscure the AC, but fear for the worst.

Is the bridge intact? Or might we have a barge secreted there... ;). The Russians sent a MC squad to investigate, which was driven back by a STuG. Unfortunately, Russian 122mm arty elminates my last sniper across the river.

Will they brave the bridgehead again? Time will tell.

In the middle of the map, T-34's blast through a recon team (and anything else in their way) as they advance Northeast.

A Russian recon team is spotted by one of our own and en-route to it, our recon squad surprises a Russian SMG squad. They initiate an ambush, and the SMG squad rushes right at them! Bad move for the Russians, as they are eliminated to a man. In addition, a moble quad 20mm eliminates the original Russian recon team. The original AC that found my STuG and recon assets was hit point-blank by the STuG's 75mm, but did not explode. It appears to have retreated.

Russian MBTs (more T-34s) have been spotted in the South as well. It appears as though they're trying to encircle our key terrain to the rear.

The turn should be in your e-mail in-box, comrade ;).

Although the enemy Special forces managed to hide momentarily they were flushed out and finally destroyed by AC and jeep mg fire.

In the south we discover another M/C spotting in woods as our infantry advance, charging into them at close quarters.
The hand to hand fighting results in a stand off but a nearby T34 assists in driving them off.
Then an indisciplined cavalry squad charges after the fleeing bikes....catching them, but was it their last charge? They have found themselves amongst SS infantry squads in cover and a Stug..!!!
The M/C squad is destroyed, the SS squad is forced into the open and also destroyed. But we now find ourselves closer to the enemy main forces than we realised.

In the city itself our forces continue to probe forward with mixed success.
Our infantry come across a dreaded flame tank...quickly calling up armoured support in an effort to destroy it....without success..only one hit amongst at least half a dozen attempts.
The enemy scouts that destroyed out SMG squad was finally despatched after being flushed out by a light AC.

Indeed the Russian horde pushes forward. They've destroyed an SS squad and more MC elements in the South, pushing our recon screen back.

In the center of the map, shots are again exchanged but no major kills. a 12.7mm MG across the river is harassing our forces trying to hold the bank, and the rumble of more T-34's is heard headed our way. The enemy has some of our forces pinned, and appears to be advancing in bounds.

We have adopted a defensive posture for now, and we shall see what develops.

(On a side note, I think there's something wrong with the map/edit because, as you'll see, our forces all retreat in the wrong direction. One of your calvary squads got shot, and kept running at the STuG shooting it each time it took a casualty. I thought it was just my forces, ex. the SS squad.

It should be in your e-mail in box buddy. :D

Another brave but ultimately fatal episode from our forces. An engineer unit tries to cross the river in an inflatable. They never stood a chance as SS squad on the far bank raked the water with heavy fire.
Questions need to be asked of our factories back East as more shells bounce off the enemy's armour. This time two Tiger tanks on the outskirts of the city, one Tiger returned fire and another T34 was destroyed.
Some long range shots were exchanged with another StuG in the south, and some opportunity shots at some recon vehicles in the North.

It appears as though the Russians aren't training their engineers in construction, only demolition. They should know not to congregate on wooden bridges. We had a 150mm SIG just behind the treeline, and when our SS recon element spotted them, we wheeled forward and fired. The bridge collapsed beneath them, dumping them all into the river.

That was about the most dramatic encounter however. We took a few shots at Russian 76mm Infantry guns, and missed, and they shot at a couple of fast-moving schwimwagons and also missed.

The award for marksmanship will not be given today to either side.

Our forces South continue to withdraw to fortified positions as the Russian armor advances. A stalemate of sorts is developing in the center of the city.

You should have the next turn in your e-mail, comrade :D.

Attempts to advance in the south have been thwarted by dogged german defence. A StuG destroyed a jeep, a T34 and damaged another before succumbing to overwhelming fire.

Another M/C recon unit was also flushed out when scouts came across it behind a house. Nearby armour and infantry finished it off as it attempted to escape.

In the city, one of our T70 light tanks destroys another Schwimmwagen but not the sniper it was carrying.

In the north, however, much more action this turn. The enemy SP inf gun by the river has been immobilised but not destroyed. A T34 was lucky enough to escape several direct hits from another StuG.

By the northern rail bridge one of our M/C units tries to cross the bridge but is pinned down by heavy fire from units on the far bank. But the exposed StuG is now taken out by a supporting T34. Two HT are also hit, one destroyed.

The operation went as planned. A Soviet MC squad came racing across the Northern rail bridge, noticing that the final section was only partially destroyed and still usable. That was how the STuG had gotten onto the island! It was to be their final thought however, as another hidden 150mm SIG II roared and the railroad trussle beneath them was blown to splinters, severing the island's Eastern egress.

"Are the rockets fueled and ready?" the Field Marshall asked his Artillery Officer. The officer nodded.

"Then fire them, now!" With that, a radio behind them crackled momentarily, and in the distance a rumble could be heard. Tthen bright flashes to their rear left streaks of smoke as they hurtled skyward. In moments recon elements reported that the last wooden bridge that the Soviet forces had used to access the island was destroyed, trapping their armor and troops on the island. More rockets fell on the remaining stone bridge nearer the center of the map, and they were disintegrated in a flash. A hapless 76mm infantry gun that the Soviets had placed on the Eastern-most remnants of the bridge for a better field of fire descended with the rubble into the bottom of the river. An armored car narrowly escaped the bridge as it exploded behind them.

Not sure how many armored units the enemy had on the island, but they're out of the battle now. Our forces can now concentrate on the battle in the center of the city, and to the South.

More Soviet rockets fell as well, but where our troops had vacated the area after they were fired upon, and the rockets blew clods of dirt skyward instead of fine German machinery and men.

The Soviets lost an AT team, T-70 tank, sniper, and SMG squad. Our artillery may have also supressed T-34s in the center that were in a street battle with STuGs and a Tiger, in addition to the MC squad and infantry gun above.

We may have only angered the bear...

It seems the enemy has started a major push to gain ground now. Suppression is a serious problem, attempts to rally have been mixed.
In the north, an exposed SS infantry unit is eliminated near the river.
A German HT pays the price for staying out on the streets too late..
In the centre the forces are getting close.. but vision is limited..we could blunder into each other at any time.

Attempts to destroy another HT failed miserably, if we survive this battle, I think some barn doors will be needed for target practice.

In the south, we flush out a Forward Observer overlooking our front line. His escort is killed but the FO escapes down the road, as a T34 advances towards him, he recoils even further away. Whether it was on purpose or by luck, he tempted the T34 into range of a distant Tiger, the 88mm boomed across from the far hill, striking the Soviet armour.

Not a terribly intense turn, but action nonetheless.

In the North, a BA-10 AC flees and a STuG misses it with two shots.

In the center, an AA HT with quad 20mm finds a SO recon squad, or rather, they find it. Successful ambush. But another HT avenges their fellows. A large Soviet armored force is pressing through the center. I found a group of 4 mortars and their transport. I took out the mortars, but the transport lives, engaging my troops! Soviet truck drivers are a resillient lot.

Speaking of resillient, the armor on those Soviet tanks is quite good. They've repelled several of my 88 hits, and when I do strike home, it damages the vehicle without destroying it. The crews dismount, and run back two turns later and re-mount.

They are attacking across a broad front now, we shall see what the next turn brings. A very interesting fight to be sure so far....

Urgently needing suppressing mortar fire we radio through to the 82mm detachment in the rear...all we hear is static....we look back, towards the ridge where they are situated...instead of the usual white haze from the mortars firing.. all we see is ominous heavy black smoke rising into the air....it looks like enemy special forces have been successful this time...:(

In the north we spot an audacious attempt to cross the river into our rear area by a previously unspotted schwimmwagen from the now isolated island...at last something for the stranded units to chase...a T34 engages it having dashed towards it...but without success...however a M/C unit drives down to the river bank...and fires...the vehicle slows down and lists... slowly it rolls over..into the murky waters...

In the centre an enemy ATR unit is spotted and quickly despatched...
We lose another T34 to a short range shot from a Tiger as it tries to engage enemy units advancing from the north...

An enemy sniper is eliminated by a flame tank...
Our engineers run into a SS inf unit in a building...they are ambushed but return fire..and in their confused state.. rush the building... ...the nearby flame tank is sent to destroy the enemy...a jet of flames engulfs the building...no-one, Russian or German is seen to emerge from the burning shell

Another valuable tank is lost cheaply.. a KV1 is destroyed by an infantry assault from a building...the SMG squad riding on the tank return fire...pinning the enemy...more of our forces converge...in a hail of fire the Germans are depleted but do not retreat...

We could really do with some mortar fire to keep the enemy suppressed...:(

Our SF squad deep in the enemy rear reports success. They have found and destroyed 4 82mm mortar positions and their two transport vehicles. The congratulation were cut short however as they reported a quad AA mg vehicle and armored car en-route to their position.

A MG team spots a SO 12.7mm HMG on the far bank of the river and a gunfight ensues. The Soviet crew gets off a few rounds but they are eliminated on the shore by withering fire from an SS crew on an MG42.

Also in the center, a battered SS squad spots an enemy 76mm infantry gun attempting to flee on foot. They can't close on them because of the river, but manage to kill 5 of the crew with rifle, MG and rifle-grenade fire. They call for transportation afterward and a schwimwagon that sped up from the rear is engaged by an OT-34 as it pulls up to pick them up. The crew revs the engine, pulls a skidding 180 in the middle of the road and retreats back into the fog.

The German commander wonders if it's even remotely possible that the newest paint used to camouflage the task force's Half-tracks could be magnetic. In the last 5 minutes, 4 of our transports were struck by single opportunity shots from Soviet tanks, killing them instantly. And a 5th was killed by a SO SMG squad after being winged by a T-34.

The Soviets lose a vehicle crew from a wounded T-34 in the South, but our scouts are reporting no activity that they can see.

A familiar scream pierces the air as yet more rockets rain down on our positions. We are also hit with 122mm shells and 75mm.

Our forces arrive at the site of our mortars.. too late to prevent their destruction.. but in time to corner the culprits before they can get away...this time no risks are taken...an BA10 AC, a truck mounted quad MG and a jeep MG pound the area with fire even though the enemy men arent spotted until they staggered out mortally wounded...and, perhaps fittingly, final resistance was ended by shots from a passing truck crew, taking revenge for their fallen comrades. :D

And even under fire, the remnants of the crew of the 76mm inf gun on the river bank manage to scramble back to the gun...loosing off one lastshot into the SS infantry who had raked them with fire just seconds ago...several men fell.. that unit will fight no more.

In the south an extravagent foray by our forward forces run into two 28mm ATG positions. One is destroyed by a brave cavalry unit, the other surprises a T34 and its infantry support. The T34 sees that discretionis the better part of valour and withdraws.

An advancing infantry unit also wipes out the remnants of the crew of a previously destroyed Stug, no doubt they have been providing valuable spotting information from that position.

Indeed they're putting pressure on my hidden AT guns in the South. They received a small surprise. A Flammenpanzer II burst through the side of a wooden house and anhillated the calavry squad that had just attacked the AT gun.

While listening to the screams of their comrades, the T-34 crews fail to notice the rumbling of of the advancing Tiger. The lead T-34 notices a flash to their right flank, and a huge explosion behind them marks the death of their wingman.

In the center, a crew puts up a brave fight against an SS squad, but dies under MG and rifle-grenade fire.

Nothing happens in the North, as the bridge there is destroyed and crossing is no longer possible.

And in the enemy's rear, we are unable to raise our SF squad...

In the city centre, a T34 advances on the SS inf unit...causing casualties with main gun and machine gun.

We try to rally our troops in the south, who were under fire but with no success, a routed T34 tries to put some distance between itself and the advancing Tiger...

The 76mm AA gun crew try to put paid to the Quad AA HT that had decimated its crew.. firing two shots...but they were more in panic than with any great conviction...they may be their last...

At last our artillery find their range...and 122mm shells fall on the Quad AA, Tiger and engineers holed up in a building...no damage is seen to be done to the vehicles but several direct hits on the house must have depleted the infantry there...

And now, the hunters become the hunted…

The Soviet tanks and SMG squads that were pushing up rapidly from the South had a surprise in store for them. Two T-34’s supporting the advance of SMG squads through the streets had their guns trained straight ahead firing on SS squads fighting house to house.

An SS MG42 team had been improving their position in a wooden hut on a hilltop in the city’s center. They watched the Soviet tanks roll forward with their SMG escorts, and recon teams. As soon as the Soviet tanks rolled to a stop, they contacted the TF commander. The MG42 erupted from their hidden position, raking the closest T-34. The infantry aboard dismounted in chaos as two of their squad were killed. The hatches on the tank slammed shut. The SS MG crew radioed success, and moments later, the German noose tightened.

Amidst the confusion, the observant TC of the buttoned T-34 spotted the Tiger cresting the hill to their North, shouting at his gunner. Their turret spun and the gunner fired. Unfortunately their round fell short, spraying dirt in the air before the Tiger. The German gunner was not as anxious, but the momentum and change in elevation made stabilizing his sights impossible, and his shots missed the nearest tank. To his flank however, a STuG crested the hill. This time, the second T-34 spotted the movement and fired, striking the STuG, and stunning it’s crew. But the brave German TC continued shouting orders, rallying his crew, and their next shot struck the Southernmost T-34 in the side and it went up in a ball of flame. Another STuG in hiding was called up to dispatch the remaining T-34. But en-route, was fired upon by another hidden T-34 to the West. They pivoted, and fired. One shot was all that was needed at that distance. The Soviet crew bailed out of their burning tank.

A crew laid a smoke canister on the road to obscure an AT gun they suspected was still sighted down the long street. With the smoke covering their crossing, a Flammenpanzer II sped forward stopping 80m from the buttoned T-34 and retreating SMG squad. With a roar, both flame throwers fired, covering the T-34 and it exploded, killing the entire crew. The SMG squad ran from the flames straight at the German tank in a panic and it fired its machine gun at them, killing three more.

A SkdFz 251/10 sped forward of the advancing armor to flush out and destroy a Soviet recon team.

To the Northeast, we suffer a small setback as an SS squad creeps through the fog and haze only to find a waiting SO engineer squad, and they’re forced to retreat.

In the South, 122mm shells hammered a squad hidden in a house there, but the fragments bounced harmlessly off of the Tiger’s thick skin. It rolled forward and blasted a formerly unnoticed Soviet cavalry squad, forcing them to retreat. The SkdFz 7/1 crew held it’s ground and eliminated the remaining crew of the 76mm AA gun. Another infantry squad in the area assisted, only to discover a second 76mm gun! The STuGs in reserve rolled Southward and engaged the remaining gun. Its transport was destroyed (a GAZ-AA truck), and a few of the gun's crew were killed.

The Tiger team in the far South continues to rattle the Soviet forces there, killing off more members of an SMG squad.

We will now show these slovenly boors what a well-trained force can do… ;)

The battle goes badly... reports from all sectors of enemy advancing...but it is our defenders who are suffering the casualties...

In the north our engineers finally dispose of the SS unit near the river bank...but are hit by sniper fire.. pinning them down.

In the centre we cannot rally our troops..they have an unfortunate reaction to incoming fire and rush the enemy instead of falling back where they can be rallied by our commanders.

Our forces seem incapable of inflicting any significant losses on the enemy and this does not bode well for future operations.

We are unable to do anything about the push through our lines to the south of the city...our forces either freezing or firing in panic.
Three T34's try to take on a Tiger at close quarters...less than 500m range. One lies destroyed, the other two at the mercy of enemy forces... they report only hitting the Tiger once...and that just bounced off...what hope do we have.. we cannot have a 3 to 1 advantage all the time and even when we do.. the Tiger is still there.....other commanders will have to be contacted if we survive this engagement to discover how to eliminate this dangerous cat..!!

We are crashing forward like a slow, metal wave. Three more T-34's are destroyed (South, and two in the center).

Two more rubber rafts are spotted and dispatched in the North by a vigilent Schwimwagon and SkdFz 251/10. Bodies are seen floating down-river. In the Northern center, a sniper kills another member of a 12.7mm HMG crew.

Calavry squad is eliminated. One 76mm AA gun is hit by a Flammenpanzer, and another has 7 of its crew killed in the center South. A Dshk HMG is spotted and pinned as well. SMG squads killed with gunfire or flamethrowers. The SO 122mm fire continues to harass us in the area as we press onward.

And our rockets fall once again, paving our way into the center VHs.

Lo and behold! A Tiger finished off its prey in the center and spots 4 more T-34/41s en-route to their position. Both the Tiger and his STuG wingmen engage but miss, and are missed by return fire. A SkdFz 251/10 to the North is alerted on the radio and fires its 37mm at the left flank of the column. A lucky shot knocks bodies off the trail vehicle as it's hatches slam shut.

High Command has insisted we break through imediately, and our troops redouble their efforts.

Our forces continue to attempt to resist the enemy advance...although in the main halfheartedly...

Our main success was the destruction of Stug in the city centre by 2 T34's and the elimination of an enemy patrol in the same area.

In the south we cannot claim any successes..the enemy flame tank despite taking some small arms hits wasnt knocked out by the infantry squad less than 50m away...3 times they tried to assault it...only to find that nothing seemed to happen except they became heavily supressed..but each time they rallied. These squads have NO AT capability at all.. not even a Molotov between them..!!!
As such the Flame tank exacted an easily taken revenge on them .. wiping out half the squad.
We cannot rally the rest of out troops...it seems like the losses we have taken in tanks will soon be matched by similar levels of infantry casualties...

Artillery fire managed to pound a Tiger in the south...at least 4 or five hits in the area.. but not even a scratch on the beast to show for it.
We are having trouble contacting out FO and so accurate artillery strikes that would be so useful now on the advancing forces are off target or cannot be contacted...a sorry state of affairs all round..:(

Story of turn 13: The KV-1 quiets its critics this turn.

In the North, very little action. In the center, a STuG is hit by an unspotted 76mm AT gun, but luckily it ricochets off, allowing the STuG to dash behind a structure. The fog of war prevents our forces up-river from the Soviet-held crossing unable to assess their defenses.

In the center, an amazing battle rages. An SS squad attempts to scout the streets from a building just North of the SO position, but they’re spotted. An OT-34 opens up, killing two of the squad in the building and they retreat into the building next door. (but not before spotting another T-34 in position slightly West). A SP Rocket-launcher rolls forward and direct-fires a flame rocket into the building housing the SMG squad, and they’re engulfed.

Then, to the South, another SS Squad emerges from the smoke only to be engaged by an SMG squad in a building across the square, killing two of their number, but the SS hold their ground. Their Half-track rolls forward in support and bathes the building in AA MG fire, pinning the SO defenders. A SP 150mm IG pulls up to their rear and blasts two huge holes in the building, killing two SO troops in return. Then the Tigers pounced. To the rear of the SS squad, a Tiger rolled from the fog and the OT-34 to the North didn’t even notice. The first two shots somehow missed (81%), but the third struck home, destroying the flame tank entirely. With SO armor in overwatch now destroyed, the SS squad eliminated a nearby vehicle crew and Dshk HMG.

With the Soviet defenses crumbling, the building the original SS squad had just vacated explodes outwards as a Tiger smashed through it. The speed of the advance catches the SO tank crew off-guard. Before they can spin their turret around, the Tiger fires its 88mm, and another T-34 is destroyed.

A STuG rolls past the Southern Tiger and blasts the fleeing SO SMG squad, and they flee into the streets, where they meet their end.

Buoyed by their success, a Schwimwagon advances into the SO-held VHs just below the Tiger, and is immediately destroyed by a hidden KV-1. The MG crew it was carrying is stunned as it’s thrown from the wreckage. Another Schwimwagon attempts to roll past the rear of the KV-1 and is destroyed as well. Then a STuG lurches forward, only to be one-shotted as well by the last SO holdout. A few more GE infantry units attempt to attack the dug-in tank, and fail. Thinking the KV-1’s crew cannot possibly load and fire again this quickly, another STuG rolls forward and is obliterated by the KV-1.

The advance in the Center is halted, and the German Commander calls in more heavy fire support.

To the far South, a Tiger aligns its sights with the rear of a T-34 and strikes home with its first shot.

Just north of the now burning T-34, a Flammenpanzer eliminates two more SO SMG squads, and an SS squad takes out more SO troops. STuGs mop up more Soviet crew and infantry, to include another 12.7mm HMG.

As Stalin’s troops rush to shore up their collapsing front, the scream of rockets again fills the air, and the Soviet positions are blasted again.

Excellent turn on both sides.

In an effort to capitalise on our meagre successes, we try to bolster some of those brave defenders who have survived the enemy onslaught.

In the centre, withering enemy fire makes it all but impossible to rally our troops.

On the northern outskirts of the city, a MC recon is sent out to assess enemy positions. They come out from behind a building only to be raked with close range fire from a StuG less than 50m away. Needless to say they take casualties and the roar of the motorbikes is silenced.

A T34 to the south of the city catches a glimpse of an enemy observer and fires rounds towards them, joined shortly afterwards by an AC. They duck down under cover, we do not know if they have lost radio contact with there artillery.
In the south, despite a frantic search of the area for that dreaded flametank, our attempts have not turned up anything. No doubt it will be back soon.....

Our communist foes do not lie down when they sense defeat. Instead, they continue to fire!

In the North, no action, but in the center, again a whirlwind. An SS MMG squad is shot to pieces by a hidden SO SMG squad, but rallies and ends up finishing them off. Skdfz 251/10 rolls in and provides suppressive fire after a STuG in a building takes out the OT-34 in overwatch. Another STuG, slightly South misinterprets a radio command and dashes forward with a recon squad riding shotgun, right into the path of a waiting T-34, and is destroyed. The same T-34 then OP-fires a Tiger closing in on it and registers a kill!

Slightly further South yet, more SO SMG and Engineer units are found, by an unlucky Schwimwagon with a sniper aboard. The Molotov arcs through the air and lands inside the car, killing all aboard. But a 150mm SiG finishes them off. The KV-1 is finally done in, by none other than the Flammenpanzer II. Right as it explodes, a hail of Soviet rockets begins to fall. To the far South, the Red Hoard suffers numerous infantry losses, but manages to ambush a SkdFz 7/1, blowing it to bits. Tigers are prowling the streets angrily for revenge. In total, 7 SO SMG squads, 2 Engineer squads, a Molotov AT squad, and crew are killed in the swirling melee. Another T-34 in the center has it’s track shot off by a German AT Rifle team hiding in the wreckage of a Schwimwagon. Immobile, the T-34 suffers two hits from a STuG and a hornet’s nest of fire from a closing SS squad, but remains intact for now.

76mm AT guns still hold off our forces at crucial junctions.

Far in the enemy’s rear, another Schwimwagon infiltrates and destroys an AT Rifle team guarding a somehow intact wooden bridge.

Somewhere lurk 4 more T-34s. The battle for the center promises to be a bloody one…
