Please refresh my memory. Is there some way to stop the computer from up grading a unit. It seems that every turn I have to go back and undue the changes the computer did to my units. I know in WITP AE you could press a button and stop the computer from up grading one's units.

This is something that you are not the only one asking about and it has been passed up to the 'patch gods'.
We await with reverence their ruling!

Not in EDTBTR but may be something we can add in the future.

That would be so wonderful if you did! I get so tired to undoing all the computer upgrades each turn.

Maybe I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure it worked for me in the past. There is a 'trick' to prevent IA upgrading your units. Take a unit and upgrade it by your own; that unit become immune to IA upgrade. It worked in older version, but I think in newer too.

That's ok if you know which units will upgrade. Simple fact for all of us is if we have enough better machines to upgrade we do it ourselves. Does annoy me when 190A6 gets replaced by 190A8. I don't like the A8.

I do not like the FW190-A8s either. The A5s and A6s are better. I end up undoing each upgrade at the beginning of every turn. Seems like such a waste of time.

From the programming sense, it would be easiest to implement a "Y/N?" prompt when upgrades are about to be applied, rather than creating a new UI checkbox. Would that be OK?

Put this in a thread on the dev board. Out to the GP

One from me.
I saw something about this somewhere else but think it needs more inspection.
Unit upgrades - no warning when this will happen, maybe the notice should say something like:

'II/JG52 upgrades to FW190D today (Y/N)'

If the player chooses N the notice would disappear and they would get no choice when repeated the next day, however during the current day the player could upgrade the unit to a different type than offered and the automatic upgrade would be cancelled.
If they choose Y then the automatic upgrade disappears and the unit upgrades.
Of course this should be available for the Allied player as well.

I've been working on this feature and it's looking good, however is it really needed for the human player?
i.e. why does the AI upgrade random groups here and there for the human player when he could change aircraft manually? Shouldn't this upgrading be a feature for the AI only?

I think you have the right idea there!
A human player will have their units set up as they want them. If a new aircraft is available you can be pretty sure we know.
We might want to keep an older design because it might be more agile and faster (FW190A-6 to FW190A-8). Also we might want to get enough to equip a large formation and not a squadron size unit.
I do appreciate the work that might have been wasted though!

So maybe you could look into new units for me?
I would like a notification not so much that I have the new unit but where it is based.
Consider a new unit arrives with 109G6. I can check my units but how would I know which is the new one? And where is it? Should it be colour coded?
A lot of them come in and start far to the East and if I were not to notice I will not be getting any use from them.
I often change the aircraft in future groups to Italian or early models so I notice this group when I check my units - it stands out so easily!

I have played WITPAE for years. I like the player defined upgrades in that game. I click one button, and the computer no longer does any upgrades for the human player. This includes upgrades to production assets.
This makes life so much easier when a new plane comes on line that is inferior to the older plane such as the FW190A6 to FW190A8.

So I take it this is a yes vote for abandoning the upgrades for the human player?

in the original game you could change the automatic upgrade to manual, but only squadron-wise. So you had to open individual squadrons to do it.

edit: correction. If you upgrade a squadron manually, its automatic upgrade is disabled.

It's not just units but production facilities now.
2/10/43 and Messerschmitt auto changes from BF110 to Me410, Luther upgrades 1 line to 109G14 and one other change I did not notice.
The 419 line is size 3 but is ready in 14 days and the single Luther is ready in 4. If I change it back it's 30 and 10. I lose 30 days production of BF119, incidentally the only BF110 production I have.
This should be another auto feature removed in my opinion.
I am researching the 410B but I think the 410A is a waste of resources. My choice, surely?

So I changed the single Luther line to a BF110 production and the very next day the AI puts it back over to Me410a!
Grrrr...
I don't want the 410a because it can only reach 30K.....but now I have checked both Wiki and militaryfactory.com and they give 33k and 32,808 feet.
WW2aircraft.net also lists the 32,800 feet for A and B models so I think maybe the stats need changing on the database. Then I probably would want the 410a!

To prevent AI managing production you must set industrial control to human.

Be careful with operational altitudes and ceilings data. Also the game tracks altitude/performance curves which can skew your perception of actual flight characteristics. I do want to list these performance envelopes in the game somehow so players can finally evaluate it without guessing.

33k (10 km) is the normal service ceiling for a Me 410A at 9.5t weight, it's not the max ceiling.
Fully loaded (11.3t, max take-off weight) service ceiling is 8400m

Is it not possible to put the R1 extra 20mm cannon underwing gondolas on Axis minor allies now? No option to add them to 109/190 units in foreign service. Cannot remember if this was always the case.
