A Japanese HQ was disorganised, in movement, to get the rest of the army in supply.
A Chinese city was taken but no entry chit was drawn.
Two land combat rolls were high enough to get a +23.
The 11th inf takes over the hex of the Peking Militia.
The 2nd Inf moves in the other hex.
Rebase : The bomber from Kaifeng to Wuhan. The naval from Haichow to Wuhan.
No HQ reorganisation.

German forces continue to press into France from Alsace-Lorraine, while also support the Italians to the south.

Italy

The Italians move into France stalls slightly as they wait for reinforcements, but the bridgehead over the Rhone is further expanded. In East Africa the Italians seek to explore their new found colony of Sudan.

I hand over to the Japanese.

Euro Axis orders for the rest of the impulse are limited to the German fighter southeast of Brussels moving to the forest west of Saarbrucken.
No land combats, no reorganisation.

I just learned how WIF works. In my group we have always played with the understanding that out of supply units do not unflip but the latest couple of days we have all became painfully aware that this is not the case. I have gravely underestimated the potential damage a few units can do behind the lines. It is slow but hard to stop.

It is amazing on how many things we have gotten wrong over the years!

I am starting to think that some rules were different in like WIF first edition and we never realized that they got changed along the way.

A selection of things we have done wrong:
* Vichy, about all of it. But we have mostly played with the optional version so it does not matter that much.
* Supply as mentioned above. This perhaps the most mindblowing misreading of the rules as it changes so much.
* How to rebase from a seaarea
* the it is only NAV that give +1 for searchrolls, not LND with NAV-factors
* overseas supply for non-HQ units
and many more things I am sure.

It is like learning the game from scratch!

Lolz, I know the feeling Sadly with an appalling memory - made even worse by my increasingly frail dotage - every time I play an impulse I have forgotten what I learn't before. I have to re-learn the game every time I do a turn....

Oh another mayor thing we have done wrong is that LND and FTR in sea-areas have been able to do missions from the sea area. Another huge missreading of the rules.
WIF is hard!

The Japanese have two attacks. Assault is the only option for defender.
The the attack on the 17th inf was supported by two bombers with a total of +4 support.
Roll was a 6. Enough for a +23. No unit moves in.
The assault on Chengsha city got a high roll of 20! All units stacked with the art moved into the city.
Rebase : Naval bomber to Tungkwan.
The turn ended on a roll of 2

Something my group learned playing WiF is that rules are written on quantum paper. They change AFTER you have read them. This is our explanation of the number of rules we got wrong, and we are sticking to it.

(Also, see my .sig.)

End of turn J/F 1940

US-entry:
Chit drawn towards Ge/IT
Embargo on strategic materials, a 4 is rolled and a chit is moved to tension.
No more options chosen.

Prel Prod:
Germany 13bp, 4 oil saved
Italy 5bp, 1 oil saved
Japan 15bp, no oil saved
China 6bp, no oil saved
CW 15bps, 7 oil saved
Frace, 4 bps, 1 oil saved
US 10 bp, 1 oil saved
USSR 14 bp, 1 oil saved

Stay at sea:
CW keeps some ships to protect shipping and some presence in western and eastern med.

Return to base:
CW returns some ships from convoyduty
France dismantles their pacific convoylines. 1 convoys is sent to French Caledonia, 2 convoys are sent to Madagascar and 1 is sent to Syria.

Oil:
USSR uses 0,4 to organize Timoshenko
Germany uses 0,4 oil to reorganize two LND
Italy uses 0,1 oil to reorganize a NAV
Japan uses 1 oil reorganize all
China uses no oil
CW uses 3 oil to reorganize all
France uses 0,15 to reorganize 3 convoys
US uses 0,4 to reorganize 3 transports and a CA

Breakdowns:
None

Final production:
As per preliminary production except something very weird. One of the NEI oil is suddenly saved for Japan even if it was correctly producing during prel. prod. And the kicker is that once you enter final production you cannot alter the tradedeal resources.
CW also lost oil saved for some reason but this could be adjusted.

Scrap:
Germany scraps a sub
Japan scraps a transport
CW scraps a FTR and a LND

Builds:
Germany builds 3 PIL, 2 LND, 1 FTR and a SUB

France builds 2 TERR
US builds 2 PIL, 2 CVP, 1 TRS and 1 MTN DIV
USSR builds HQ-I, 1 CAV, 1 GAR, 1 INF and 1 INF DIV

Factory destruction:
Italian partisan in Bombay destroys factory.

------------------

MAR/APR 1940

Reinforcements:
As per orders from Robert for Germany and Italy.
The TERR for Italy was in French Somaliland so not much choice.

Japan deploys a TERR in Korea and Transportplane in Sasebo.

CW assigns a pilot to a LND3 and deploys an INF in Bristol, a Wellington LND in London, a convoy in Adelaide and a TERR in Uganda. 3 ships have finished their first cycle and are put into the constructionspool.

France assigns a pilot to a Potez FTR. France place TERRs in Algier and New Caledonia, a convoy in Dakar and an ARM and the Potez FTR in Paris

The US deploys the new carriers in San Diego and a MECH DIV in Newark. A convoy is placed on the west coast.

USSR places 2 INF, 1 GAR, 1 MTN and 2 INF DIV close to the polish border. A communist chinese cav is placed in a Yenan.

Trade Agreements:
Germany amends the agreement with Italy and now sends 4 build points and 1 oil.

Initiative:
Axis rolls 3, becomes a 4
Allies rolls 8

Axis asks for a reroll.

Axis rolls 1
Allies rolls 6

Allies moves first (I am asking Ronnie for confirmation on this before moving on)
Confirmed by Ronnie, allies are moving first.

Weather for allied impulse #1 mar/apr 1940 is a 6 + 2 = 8. Rain in the arctic and fine everywhere else.
Now moving to a new post.

Thanks JP - please advise which TERR was pulled out at your earliest opportunity (so it doesn't unnecessarily delay the reinforcement phase). Many thanks.

Strategic Bombing:
Japan

A NAV is sent to Lanchow but does no damage.

Ground Strike:
Germany

The Germans send bombers to the Ardennes (a 5-factor stuka is the second aircraft) and the hex west and southeast.

The aircraft the Germans can counter-intercept with are as shown plus a 4-factor, 3 range in Liege. What do the French want to do?

I give up. Drink wine?

The french sends an MS-406 from the hex east of Rouen to the groundstrike NW of Reims.
France sends the other MS-406 to the hex west of Strasbourg.

They will fight until the bombers are either aborted or cleared and then rebase to the hexes west of Paris and SE of Paris, if still alive.

So to be clear, your target is the bomber and not the fighter in all cases?
