1943 August 27

INVADED
Invested: Taung Gyi.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP

Overall

• No carrier info.

• Two fast battleships will go back to PH for important AA suite upgrades. The risk of the IJN intervening in the Manus/Kavieng area, or at Horn Island (which is still a bit off) seems quite low, so they can be spared. Until the Pagan invasion our forces will be inside good search coverage. The remaining destroyers ready for upgrades will be released also (along with the DD's needing "minefulness" training).

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii

• Much, much stuff moving forward to Pearl and forward from Pearl.

Pacific

• This plus aerial bombardments just to wear them down after (hopefully) exhausting their supply.

Nice series of attacks on that CA/CL TF! I wouldn't give Tone and Isuzu more than 10% chance of surviving. Only cost 3 B-25s too!

I've got the next turn but won't be able to get to it for a couple of hours...

• The air battles over the Bay of Bengal continued although smaller, and we took it to them at their Prome airbase.

• Probably within two weeks all of the Fletcher class DD's sent to this theater will be at Bombay. At that point we will deploy surface forces back to the Bay of Bengal. Air cover will be provided by LBA; Victorious will have to withdraw soon after but could not offer adequate cover on her own anyway.

Two days ago our BB's bombarded Eniwetok. Now we see two enemy sub TF's (3 subs spotted) heading that way. Are they intending to lay a minefield or lay in wait? We have 4x 2-DD ASW TF's responding to ambush them as they arrive and harry them en route. Our Eniwetok invasion convoy should land troops in about 5 days.

The IJ CAP could not look after crippled ships and air bases at the same time, and the problem has only gotten worse as we have walked our base strikes back along bases in range on the cripples.
