As before, please have a clean separate installation of the game with the comprehensive v1.23.00 Beta update, and THEN copy the v1.23.04 Beta EXE file into the game directory (it is the game executable and not an installer executable). The updated database data files are too large to include in the attachment; it really only changes the Swedish light fleet so just ignore that for now.

This is an important update, long in coming. Working with MapleLeaf and his intrepid pbem groups, this update is pretty stable now and finally(?) resolves most all of the pbem issues they have been dealing with: depots, supply, minor corps issues with sieges and rural combats, you name it. It's been a busy 3 months, and below is the history of the v1.23.05 saga:
quote:

1/12/20 1.23.05
1/13/20 1.23.05 [2]
1/20/20 1.23.05 [3]
1/21/20 1.23.05 [4]
1/22/20 1.23.05 [4] Hotfix
1/26/20 1.23.05 [5]
1/29/20 1.23.05 [6]
2/07/20 1.23.05 [7]
2/13/20 1.23.05 [8]
2/19/20 1.23.05 [9]
2/27/20 1.23.05 [10]
3/01/20 1.23.05 [11]
3/10/20 1.23.05 [12]
3/15/20 1.23.05 [13]

So here's the change log for this update:
quote:

Empires in Arms the Napoleonic Wars - 1.23.05
=============================================
- Garrisons and corps under siege incorrectly allowed to manually forage normally - resolved.
- Leader picture link to in-game help file not working correctly - resolved.
- Defender pursuit losses more than available troops not working correctly - resolved.
- Forage messages not consistent and could be improved - resolved.
- Placing depots not working correctly - resolved.
- Restrict AI unit losses unless necessary if leader assigned - resolved.
- Siege battles causing human pbem players to be swapped with AI - resolved.
- Minor corps not able to move in enemy nation - resolved.
- AI attacker-human defender trivial combat not working correctly - resolved.
- AI naval improvements - resolved.
- Minor corps involved in some combats not working correctly - resolved.
- AI land improvements, strategic retreats and advancements - resolved.

I have spent some time along the way to also update the AI land and naval moves to improve performance somewhat. More about this on another thread. There is still room for improvement and I will continue to work on AI improvements as I can.

As before, let us see how this version plays and I will respond to game bug reports as they arise. Looking ahead, there are 1812 scenario updates to work on, so more feedback on the 1812 setup situations is needed. Again, I'd like to get a stable version running and the 1812 scenario updated so we can proceed to an official patch sometime later this spring.

FYI. I've had reports of some combats not working correctly, where the defender in some cases is not taking casualties as calculated. I have found and fixed a couple of issues in the code and provided a hotfix to MapleLeaf for his pbem groups to check out. If all is good, I will post the hotfix here next week.

Still problems with persue losses. 11 turned in to 0, at least according to the text message.
Move blocked when confederation units try to siege Paris.

Problems with other losses too. Ai doesnt seem to take any losses whatsoever :)

Depot creation and tracing supply works a lot better.

Is this with the hotfix being tested, or the posted v1.23.05 Beta? The casualties issue should be resolved, but pursuit might be handled separately so I'll take a look to ensure the regular combat losses fix is also applied for pursuit losses.

UPDATE 4/18/2020

After receiving reports of casualties not working in some cases (which is a major bug), I've been working with MapleLeaf and his intrepid pbem players to find and fix this bug and resolve a few other issues. The change log for v1.23.05 is updated with the following items:

quote:

- France and Great Britain not able to place corps and depots in Spain during setup phase of 1812 scenario - resolved.
- Battle casualties not being taken in some cases - resolved.
- Austrian Insurrection Corps ready to be placed message appearing during other player turns - resolved.
- Prisoners screen errors due to new leader ratings not working correctly - resolved and wgslabels.txt updated.

For the 1812 setup, France and Great Britain should comply with the scenario setup requirements. House Rules are in effect.

For the prisoners screen, I had a syntax error for printing the leader ratings. Once that was resolved the message length was too long with the additional (+2 PPs Gain For Release) message and a smaller font caused some display issues. So that additional message now appears as a popup when you hover over the Release Prisoners button, consistent with the other popups for the other buttons. Hence the update to the wgslabels.txt file included in the attached Hotfix zip. You should be able to extract the zip file contents into you EIA folder and the new file should go to \Data\programtext.

Alrighty, I trust this Hotfix update makes the v1.23.05 Beta playable. At least to the point of continuing PBEM games and starting some 1812 scenario games to generate feedback about the 1812 setup issues. I intend to review all of my notes for the v1.23.xx updates and settle on various back-burner issues to work on for v1.23.06 going into the home stretch for an official update. I'll add an update to the State of the Game later today or tomorrow.

Update Note: You do not need the earlier v1.23.05 Beta first; the Hotfix is a complete game EXE and the .txt file. So players can simply add the Hotfix. For new installations, make a clean install of the original game, update to the v1.23.00 Beta comprehensive patch, and then apply the v1.23.05 Beta Hotfix. (When I say clean install, please refer to previous guidance, as convoluted as it may be. Sorry.)

UPDATE 4/22/2020

Within a day of posting the hotfix on 4/18/20, I got a pbem game report regarding two issues with a siege battle. Russia with loaned Prussians were trying to besiege Turkey in Constantinople. One, a loaned Prussian corps could not enter the city to besiege, and I noted another loaned Prussian corps already besieging could not exit. Two, when the Russian withdrew from the city and lifted the siege, that caused the Turkey player to be swapped with AI. I was able to resolve both issues. The comprehensive loaned unit "fixes" I made for v1.23 continue to haunt us.

As before, you should be able to extract the zip file contents into you EIA folder and the new wgslabels.txt file should go to \Data\programtext. The EXE should be dated 4/19/20.

UPDATE 4/26/2020

Alright, one more time. I got another pbem game report regarding a naval battle problem. I tracked this down to a "fix" I tried making in v1.23.00 for Mantis issue #772 for loaned neutral fleets carrying hostile troops. I thought I had this working, but the logic treated loaned enemy fleets as neutral fleets and prevented a naval battle that should have happened.

In resolving this, I verified the game is working as it should now. For a playtest, I had neutral Spain loan fleets to allied France. During the French naval phase, France loaded a corps onto a loaned fleet and attempted to move into the English Channel. British fleets intercepted and auto-DOW'd Spain (see screenshot in next post).

Two takeaways here. One, France needs to grant access to ally Spain for its fleets to enter and remain in French port, else the Spanish fleets are moved out to sea. Two, by committing to transport hostile troops past enemy fleets set to intercept, Spain risks itself entering into war with Great Britain if intercepted. Thoughtful consideration is needed here.

OK, unless there are any more surprises with land or naval combats, v1.23.05 should be done now. I hope. I want to move on to v1.23.06 but I'd like to get a week without bug reports. We shall see. As before, you should be able to extract the latest hotfix zip file contents into you EIA folder and the new wgslabels.txt file should go to \Data\programtext. The EXE should be dated 4/26/20.

As mentioned in above post. Screenshot of neutral Spanish fleet carrying allied French corps being intercepted by British fleets.

Correct. The 1.23.00 public beta is a comprehensive update, and then the 1.23.05 update and hotfix get applied to that. I should have a 1.23.06 update ready in another week or so. Welcome back!
