Hi all!

I am quite new here to the forums, as well as the Matrix games concept as a whole. I've dabbled with HOI4 a bit as well as other Paradox games, specifically Stellaris.

These seem to be completely new beasts all together though. The complexity of the combat has me feeling equal parts overwhelmed and in awe.

I was hoping to get a better understanding of the combat that will be in Shadow Empire. I'm watching a lot of the lets plays that are available, but is there a concrete written document/video that really breaks down the nuances of combat that will appear in this game?

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Koplinsol.

The manual is apparently extremely detailed and over 250 pages and contains the information you are looking for but sadly for all of us desperate to get our hands on the game it won't be released until the game is (or if we are very lucky a day or two before).

The You Tube videos by Das Tactic and Explorminate in my view do the best job of describing some of the nuances but Greyhunter and Tortuga Power are also good.

Not long to wait now !

Awesome thanks devoncop!

I plan on watching Das' videos today, so happy to hear they go into that type of detail!

Am I correct in understanding that the release is sometime in June? I remember reading that somewhere but have yet to see an official post/announcement yet and don't want to let speculation run wild.

Thanks for the shout-out. :) To give my videos some perspective, the current series going up every day was recorded before the other content and I really didn't have much of a grasp of the game mechanics (although I thought I did at the time). The Medusa World series came after that and in my opinion is the better series if you are wanting more in-depth information, even though it is a livestream, because I can go 'under the hood' a bit more and explain the various mechanics. I can't remember which episode I do that with though for combat, sorry.

Thats so awesome! Noted for my next to watch! I love the idea of under the hood aspects. And honestly, I'll consume the series before the end of the weekend, so I will find it haha.

This is incredibly exciting and I cannot wait to watch!

Thanks for the shout too. Actually, I've often looked to DasTactic when learning to play strategy games so if my explanation is good, it's because I had a good teacher there :) If it wasn't for Das I would have bounced HARD off Dominions 5, now it's one of my favourite games.

This game is really deep, I think it's quite difficult to grasp even after many hours of play because there's a lot going on. With that said, it should be clear from the many Youtube vids that once you've gotten to grips with the basics, you can play this quite quickly! It's a very streamlined design for such a complex game.

You also need to watch Ben's (Explorminate) series on the Lava Planet. In episode 10 just out this morning there is a fascinating walkthrough of the Report Screens and the huge amount of "under the hood" detail they reveal.

I suspect this will very much meet with your approval. Huge amounts of immersion and flavour.

Just finished episode 10. Do keep up with the "glacial slow" pace. I find any extra break down of the game so helpful with understanding the under the hood aspects.
