I could have sworn that the gold was from the Soviet cruiser Chervona Ukraina, which was not really sunk by the Germans in September 1941 as alleged, but actually exited the Black sea through the Bosporus and made its way via the Suez canal to India, where it was intended the gold reserves stored in the Crimea, which had been cut off from the rest of the USSR by the Axis land advance, would be returned to Siberia via the Persian Gulf.

Unfortunately the German 1942 advance on Stalingrad stymied this plane, so it was decided to move the gold via Australia, to the west coast of the US, where it would be deposited alongside American gold reserves. John M Keynes had developed a financial plan involving profitable, complex bond and novel derivative transactions which would have increased the size of Soviet capital reserves to such an extent that at the conclusion of the European war, Premier Stalin might have been bribed into a less antagonistic mind-frame.

Alas, all this was lost when the Woollongbar went down. There is no gold there now, of course - the Glomar Explorer recovered it some 25 years ago.

Status: offline 		Even better is to wrap a pork loin 1st in spicy Italian sausage and then in bacon, cook in tin foil and unwrap to crisp. Your cardiologist will love you.

Especially if your cholesterol is too low. Or if it is not, then take a vitamin E capsule before a high fat meal and your blood fats won't rise.
